Need FoT mapping help

Post by Retlaw83 »

Could someone point me to an advanced map-making tutorial? I really can't see making my battlefield one tile at a time.

Thanks.

I admit I am a little lazy. I have been in the habit of taking maps from the original game and modifying them or even cutting clips from one map to add to another map. Clips are the simplest way to create a big map quickly. I have a small library of clipped buildings that I can share if you need them. There also is a good variety of terrains in the random encounter mission maps. They are easy to use as a starting point and require little modification. Here is a catalog of the various terrains available:

Mission Y02 - Rocky Desert
Mission Y03 - Rocky Desert
Mission Y04 - Rocky Desert

I might be asking for some of those for use with later mods, but right now I need snow. Snow I tells ya! And lots of it.

I did figure out some things with the editor, and from that I was able to make a snow tile fill set. Then my first roof started giving me problems. Then I found out that simulating a conversation between two characters crashes the game because they try and talk at the same time because Tactics doesn't sequentially go through triggers as well as it could.

Learning is fun. :bang:

If you have speech between two NPCs, use blocking to make them talk in the proper sequence.

I'm not sure what you mean by "blocking". You mean make sure they can't see each other?

Blocking is a tick box in the top right of the trigger if I remember correctly, which means that the second action will not occur until the first action is completed.

There is another tick box, repeat action which is vitally important for many things, such as switches that open doors.

I'm glad the new password did the trick for you. WB!

As far as the answer to the question you had about the random encounter enemies, you may want to check out this thread:

There is a possibility that might be the reason why the rebels don't use the weapons?

I didn't spot that tread, but I had already considered that coincidentally. They were race type BOS, so I changed them to raider, and it didn't seem to change anything, so I changed them back to BOS and still, it didn't work.

Even more strangely, sometimes the missile launcher entities do have ammunition and shoot me, and sometimes they don't.

Perhaps its their level of skill? Or, perhaps, they are afraid they'll shoot themselves or each other? After all, the rocket launcher is a powerful weapon and, oftentimes, dangerous weapon in the wrong hands.

Remember those mutants in the APC mission? Lots of fun that.
