Fallout 2 without dying?
Has one of you guys already managed to go through fallout 2 without ever dying, and without 'save and load' (this means you cant load a game to change something that happened, like getting caught for stealing.
I think a few of the guys were trying something like this a while ago. "Fallout Hardcore." If you die you start over from scratch. Can't recall if anyone pulled it off. Try looking at the older threads.

I tried with an entirely non-combat character, but it was too hard and Vic kept hitting me in the back with his .44 revolver.
It's a bit more reasonable to attempt iron man mode in Fallout 1, where it's shorter, the circumstances are far less ridiculous, and the NPCs are far less annoying (ie. dogmeat).

suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

There is a guy who completed Fallout 2 in 17 minutes, 51 seconds without dying...Here's the link to the video:

I always found it pretty annoying trying to keep that stupid mutt alive. Actually I don't know if there was a single NPC that didn't make it a habit of doing stupid things and pissing me off.atoga wrote:It's a bit more reasonable to attempt iron man mode in Fallout 1, where it's shorter, the circumstances are far less ridiculous, and the NPCs are far less annoying (ie. dogmeat).
Aside from Dogmeat, yeah. But at least in Fallout 1 you aren't supposed to rely on them as much. In Fallout 2 you pretty much have to get Sulik, who pisses me off, for instance.

What, you get tired of hearing "whatcha be needing" all the time?
Actually most of the NPCs amuse me, especially when they say rude things to or about each other. Why else let Myron join you, but for his comments. However Marcus with a mini-gun or grenades is less amusing than destructive.
As far as needing Sulik, if you have small guns tagged, find the hidden 10mm pistol in Klamath, and refrain from picking unnecessary fights, you can make it alone to Vault City/Gecko fairly easily, IIRC.

17min? niceExtremeDrinker wrote:There is a guy who completed Fallout 2 in 17 minutes, 51 seconds without dying...Here's the link to the video:

My record is 30-odd minutes, but I've only really attempted it once. Might give me an excuse to boot up my Fo2.
This 'finishing the game quickly' is the option I will never choose in any game. I always liked to explore every crack and drop of water in RPGs (though I must admit I sometimes got a bit bored with it).
I made some exceptions when a game got me so pissed off that I suddenly uninstalled and deleted every remains of it. Lionheart was the one that endured for 15 long minutes when I realized that it's only dungeon hack type so bub-bye...

Hehe, cool. I've never tried to beat FO2 fast but I did finish FO1 pretty quickly (didn't count the time though): ran to the vats, snuck in, blew it up, ran to the cathedral, snuck in, blew it up, the end :)ExtremeDrinker wrote:There is a guy who completed Fallout 2 in 17 minutes, 51 seconds without dying...Here's the link to the video:

well, it's nice to experiment with stuff after you've pretty much explored every crack and drop of water already... there's plenty to see in Fallouts but I reckon you've seen most of it after beating them like 10 timesThis 'finishing the game quickly' is the option I will never choose in any game. I played Fallout 2 only 4-5 times (maybe 6, but it's not probable, 'cause I still speak human, not mutie-slang), and I know that not everything is revealed to me (for a very simple example: I haven't tried to be a slaver yet...), so I begin the next search for the GECK soon.Gimp Mask wrote: ... there's plenty to see in Fallouts but I reckon you've seen most of it after beating them like 10 times

Well yeah, I guess it depends a lot on how different characters you play. Granted most of my runs are quite similiar (male, small guns, doing "good" quests, etc.) but I don't think there's *that* much I haven't seen yet, as every game is still so different... and that's what makes Fallout so great. Finishing the game as fast as you can is just another way of playing it, albeit a bit silly yeah, but still adding something "new" to the game you've beat so many times beforeLartrid wrote:I played Fallout 2 only 4-5 times (maybe 6, but it's not probable, 'cause I still speak human, not mutie-slang), and I know that not everything is revealed to me (for a very simple example: I haven't tried to be a slaver yet...), so I begin the next search for the GECK soon.
Oh and actually, I have no idea how many times I've beat Fallouts... probably 10-ish. I lost count around 6? Ah well.
