Renders of the VanBuren cop car and dune buggy @ NMA

Post by PsychoSniper »

[ -> Update]

They have pictures of the Van Buren cop car and dune buggy up over at NMA, compliments of J.E. Sawyer, in this <a href=http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewto ... thread.

All of those vehicles ran on SECs or MFCs, both of which are/were a limited commodity. Considering the power generated by one SEC or MFC in a few of the Fallout weapons, it's conceivable that a vehicle powered by either source could go many a' mile on one charge.

Dune Buggy: This ramshackle welded steel frame holds a 133hp small energy cell engine. Its makeshift seats and "holding bars" allow it to carry a total of six passengers. It was manufactured sometime after the war and was apparently abandoned in the desert after a tribal attack. It has no room for baggage.

Cop car: Detroit Motor Cars Ibex Police Interceptor - "It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made after the Anchorage Reclamation so it'll run good on small energy cells."

Motorcycle: The Boudicca-78/S was a reliable modern motorcycle used by the British Royal Armored Corps, Arabia Division. The U.S. National Guard used several such motorcycles during the time of quarantine right before the war. The bike's 78hp engine runs off of small energy cells and has a small amount of storage space on the back of the sidecar.

The cop car especially fits in the proper setting with its appearence, but who else is reminded of the blues brothers by its description ? Anyway, go check out the renders of the cars, great stuff!

Actually, i think the Buggy is the vehicule that feels closer to my idea of the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout.

It might be my personal views about buggys that influence me. I just hate em in general, a bloody silly vehicle it is.

I think you mean closer to the world of Fallout Tactics since it looks pretty close to the dune buggy in that game.

Well, you think wrong. I meant what I said :P

However, thinking back, it does look close enough to the one in Tactics, true enough.

We'll never know for sure. But what I do know for certain is that they got the viewpoint right with the engine.

I like the retro look of the cop car, but I think it would of been more broken down. A busted light, a missing door or two, no hubcaps, lots of rust.

I don't like how the vehicles were apparently originally manufactured to run on fuel cells. That really doesn't make sense in the setting for reasons that have been elaborated many times before. It would have made way more sense to force players to have the engines modified.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Yeah, and at the same time make the vehicles feel special. The car in FO2 at least needed you to fetch some hidden piece of junk. It should require something hard to do, find, or need some specific skill/perk/trait, so that not all characters can use it. If it doesn't, why didn't any NPC get it first?

Er you`ve described exactly how they would work on Fallout3 actually, you win the unvoluntary psychic price of the week.
