Fanout site online

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[Game -> Mod News (DO NOT USE - use MOD > UPDATE instead)]

EnderAndrew let me know that the site for Fanout, subtitled 'Fallout 3 by the fans', is now running, with a press release and status update to follow shortly.

Welcome to the official site for "Fanout," a project attempting to create a deep and vibrant isometric CRPG using tools developed by the original Fallout team. We are aiming to create a faithful rendition of the Fallout gameworld, remaining true to the successful and award-winning atmosphere of the post-apocalyptic setting, whilst still adding new features such as item creation and expanding on the original series' distinguished characteristics.

A worthy goal... though I would like a resolution enhancement in one of these mods so I don't have to play in 640x480...

There is no way they can change the resolution with the Fallout engine without the source code to Fallout.

Ianout doesnt have the needed functionality, at leat not with the current version.

At least, that's what the programers were saying when we decided on teh FO2 engine.

IanOut's combat doesn't work properly, and there isn't really any scripting support.

We could do work using IanOut hoping that a later version would suit our needs, but it may be wasted effort.

I would like to see IanOut use the FO2 scripting language since graphics can easily be ported over to IanOut and dialogue is simple enough to move.

If that were the case, the project could someday be moved over to IanOut if they finish it. The advantages of IanOut are multiple resolutions and platforms, but I'm not going to sacrafice scripting because you'll get a game like FO:T, and we're not interesting in doing something like that. If we were, we'd just use the FO:T editors.
