Some questions...

Post by Misty »

Hi everyone. I'm a complete newbie to Fallout Tactics editing, and I just wondered if anyone could help me with this problem:

I get the "flashing red tile error" when I try to put an object (e.g. a bulldozer) on a floor tile. I looked at some FT levels, and noticed the floor is not selectable, as if it is not made of tiles. How do you do that, and how do you get rid of the flashing error?

I apologise if this is a stupid question. Thanks :)

The flashing red tiles mean that you are trying to put the bulldozer on the same level as the floor. If you look on the right side of the editor there is a scale with color changes every 13 units. The default number shown is 0. When you left-click on another mark of the scale you are changing levels. If you hold down the space bar and then hold the left mouse button you can click and drag the entire scale up or down. Using the page-up or page-down key will also switch between levels.

Floors are generally placed on level 0. Then walls, trees, or other objects are placed on level 1. So you must manually change levels to place new objects to avoid your problem.

You can also raise and lower the level using the wheel on a wheel mouse.

Yes, the mouse wheel is actually required if you want to be able to fully edit all things Fallout Tactics. I don't think there is any other way to edit everything in the entity editor without it. You could always use BOSEE though.

The wheel really comes in handy though :)

I use it all the time. I wouldn't have a mouse without it.. it'd be worse than missing any of the buttons.

How do you use the mouse wheel? I rarely use it, and I can do everything, as far as I know. If you mean accessing those long bars such as the entity edit properties, you can also click the mouse on a portion that is not active and drag the whole area up or down.
Forgive my ignorance master.

I commonly use it on the internet as well. Like right now I can scroll up and down this entire message board a lot faster than click-dragging the scroll bar or using the arrow keys.

You can also click in the mouse wheel on a long web page, and slighly move your mouse down and it will automatically scroll down based on how far down you move the mouse after you click.. fully adjustable scrolling speed, basically.

As mentioned you can also use it to scroll up and down levels in the editor. You can switch weapons in many games with it, mainly FPS games, and you can switch hotkeyed spells in Diablo 2.

Basically its just a handy device all around. Its just something that grows on you, much like ummm.... say.. the internet. Although I suppose you could live without the mouse wheel. I think most people would die without the internet :bang:
