Fallout fans 'the worst there are'
[ -> Interview]
Feargus has been <a href="http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/game ... rviewed at GamePro.com, mainly about NWN 2, but he talks a bit about Bethesda aquiring the rights to Fallout 3 as well.

GP: Changing the subject, since you headed both Fallout 1 and 2, do you have any thoughts on Bethesda taking on Fallout 3?

FU: I'm cool with it. I mean that's why I didn't want to leave Black Isle for so long because I wanted to make the next Fallout, and knew if I left that I couldn't make Fallout. It's one of those things that I want to wish them the best of luck--Fallout fans are the worst fans there are. I'd still like to make another Fallout, but something that worries me is whether or not making another Fallout makes sense. It was cool and a lot of fun seven years ago, but is it pertinent anymore? Both of those games sold about 500-750,000 games--it's not a blockbuster, but still pretty good for a game like that--would still that many people buy it? It's a different market now--that was around the last time that people can ship sleeper hits--it's hard to have a sleeper hit now because if something doesn't sell in two weeks Walmart wants its shelf space back. I think it's tough. My personal opinion is I don't think that Bethesda will make a game that's like a Fallout 3. I had an argument on some forum recently and said that having another Fallout game in another way of playing would be great. I don't think Interplay's game--I haven't played it so I can't say--but the reviews weren't that great. Would I like to make another Fallout? Yes, but I don't go out and search for it.

Indeed. Gotta chase those SLAM DUNKS! in the form of Bioware hand downs, eh Feargus?

I guess since we're not offering to suck him and NWN2 off, we're 'the worst there are'.
EDT: And let's not forget, this is the same person who a few days ago was talking about how great NWN's single player campaign was.
There's no doubt the Beth devs are going to have a hard time. However I've talked to a few of them, and my impressions are that they genuinely want to interact with the community on here, NMA and even RPGCodex, flame wars and all, which can only be a good sign. They also know how fans feel about Tactics and BOS, for instance, and how they were far inferior to the first two games. As a result I am slightly more hopeful about where they may take the franchise. Of course with no firm details to discuss, a lot of things are still up in the air.

He just wants them to know what they're in for. Yeah, we're demanding. Yeah, we're not quiet either. Many of us know the difference between a line of crap we're being fed and can filter out the meaning behind it.
Then again, there's a bunch of newer people who stroke it red and raw to any piece of info from Van Buren just because chatty has beens are trying to cling to a fleeting moment of fame.

I'd bet that Feargus honestly thinks he could make a FO3 that sold well. He just doesn't want to admit it.Mr. Teatime wrote:Indeed. Gotta chase those SLAM DUNKS! in the form of Bioware hand downs, eh Feargus?

I think he meant to say that we're the hardest to please, but that's just a guess... I hope he didn't mean to say we're simply bad people.Jimmyjay86 wrote:The worst there are? The worst what? Are we the worst supporters of quality products? Are we the worst spellers? Are we the worst when it comes to coherent arguments? Are we the worst players in CS ladders? Personally I think BG fans are the worst....

He's apperantly never met a yaoi fan. Ofcourse...there are lines between "Fan" and "Obsession" I suppose. Still, I don't really imagine us as "Worst fans" infact, I'd rather think of us as quite the opposite. We care about the product and the where its heading. Not many game series can claim to have people who actually CARE about their product line enough to actually criticize them or tell them they're making a stupid decision. Sure, we all argue about things we want in the next fallout, or what would make the next fallout better, but we do so because we want the best possible product. So in actuallity, we want to murder Herve and send dead rabbits to Chuck (well I do) simply because we care.

How about their other fanbases? The ones who write erotic fan fictions about Imoen and make mods where you can sex her up in BG and BG2? Imoen, who just happens to be the player character's sister in the game. There's several sites devoted to that kind of thing.Wolfman Walt wrote:He's apperantly never met a yaoi fan.
I'd rather have a dedicated and rabid fan base demanding quality over one that wants to fuck their pink haired sister in the game.

If I remember correctly, didn't the mod require your character to be a female as well? I remember hating BG2 for afew weeks after reading about that mod. Apperantly they explained it that while on the island that the evil guy (Icarus) did alot of "Evil things to her" so she only now takes comfort and love from females.......how heart warming.
Sadly, thats the sort of thing I expected from the yaoi community, except a gay relationship between the main character and Minsc and Boo. If such a mod exists.......I am not suprised in the least.

Well, I suppose we could comfort ourselves with the fact that atleast we're famous.
Mebbe them game devs aren't too good with criticism... And well, indedd mainstream sucks. But too not mainstream may be bad too... "The return of the slobbery cunt" is not a game I'd fancy.
But I do agree that we arent that picky, we just know what we want and how we'd like if. but we never get it.
Like childmolestors.

In a way, every Bhaalspawn were brothers and sisters... in the sense that Bhaal was theri father, but they were all birthed by different mothers. I don't know if Bhaal's seed worked as any known human form of reproduction or if it was just a ceremony involving magic. Regardless, the PC and Imoen were only brothers in regards to having the same father, but not the same mother.Saint_Proverbius wrote:How about their other fanbases? Still, its a somewhat dim-witted thing.
Your idols speak so much of the abyss, yet your morals only run as deep as the surface.
