More Feargus rambling

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ -> Interview]</strong>

<a href="http://www.1up.com">1UP</a> have another <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3134032">interview</a> with <b>Feargus Urquhart</b>, again mainly about <a href="http://www.atari.com/nwn2/">NWN 2</a> but there are some references to the <b>Fallout</b> series. I've quoted both references for you:
<br>
<br><blockquote>...But our biggest focus right now is on the single-player campaign. I mean, the original campaign wasn't bad; some people criticized it, but I wouldn't say it was necessarily bad. But I finished both expansion packs to the first Neverwinter and not even I have finished the original game. So that's one of our goals: take what we've learned from Fallout and Planescape: Torment, and really make a great single-player game.
<br>
<br><b>1UP: There haven't been many [hardcore RPGs set in the near future] lately.</b>
<br>
<br>Urquhart: Not at all. I think that's part of the reason why people want a new Fallout. Of course, we have to convince publishers that it's a good idea. We pitched an idea a little while back, and maybe it was a little too nutty, but I'd still like to make it. I think it'd be fun to play -- a small group fighting aliens, or zombies, or Barneys, or whatever.</blockquote>
<br>
<br><b>Feargus</b>, if you can make the single player campaign anything like <a href="http://www.interplay.com/planescape/">PS:T</a>'s campaign, I'll be amazed on two counts:
<br>
<br>1) Just amazed, and
<br>2) Amazed that it's also the sequel to one of the worst single player campaigns in recent memory.
<br>
<br>Does anyone know to what extent <b>MCA</b> is involved in this project? You can't talk about <a href="http://www.interplay.com/planescape/">Planescape</a> without talking about <b>MCA</b>.

"It's a good game; so good I never bothered to finish it!"

I don't envy Feargus on this. The official campaign of Neverwinter Nights was one of the worst, most forgetable singleplayer CRPGs to have been made in the last decade, but he can't say it's bad.

Lucky for him, we can serve as his mouthpiece on this.

_For the record, is it still a good idea to link anything to Interplay, given the site is gone?

Currently it's DAC policy. I agree it looks kind of stupid right now, but it's to keep style consistant if IPLY were to come back to life and put their website up again. When they are truly dead, we won't link.

That Mr Fear and Mr Aval are now responsible for making NWN2 is great news! (though not exactly the topic of this thread, but dont ban me guys ;) )
I enjoy cRPGs, but not only SF-style; I also fancy some fantasy stuff (yes I kinda liked BG series, point your fingers and laugh).
Needless to say, NWN (singleplayer) came as a fucking disappointment, so NWN2 with a fantasy setting and singleplayer anything close as good as P:T would make me pretty happy.
I'm also looking forward to Warhammer Online, but it's a MMORPG, hence a different cattle of fish. Yet from what I've seen so far and from what I know about Warhammer, its atmosphere is going to suit me best - from the upcoming fantasy cRPGs.

OMFG :chainsaw: :anger: I've been too busy no notice it these last 2 months.
interesting quote:
"but the costs involved in bringing the Warhammer massively multiplayer online game (MMO) to market meant that we were left with little choice. With new MMO's, such as Star Wars Galaxies costing up to $ 30M to launch, this is now a very high stakes business."
