Stop press: Publisher rapes all that is holy

Post by Mr. Teatime »

1UP: What should we expect from Eidos in the near future?

Dyer: We're going to try to get more of a consumer focus into our games. Deus Ex: Invisible War was a good game with solid reviews, but not enough people bought it. We'll fix that in the future. There definitely will be a Deus Ex 3. People want another Thief, too. We'll make that series more modern, though...the medieval thing's run its course. The coming year will bring some really new, innovative titles, plus comebacks from many brands gamers are already familiar with.

(moved to general gaming)

Chris Corello, an ex ion storm person, says the modern thief thing wasn't as bad as it sounds (evil avatar boards somewhere). and it's true that the garrett trilogy is finished, so a new perspective could be innovative. It's just the way this eidos guy words it.

That eidos bastard does not deserve to run a company at all. People like him are the reason great and original games like Fear Effect, Wipeout, and new Colony Wars games get cancelled because they wanna make another shitty Deus or another Thief and let's not forget how bad the latest Tomb Riader was. Laracroft is the reason that eidos has been losing money.
Dyer: In the beginning, I think we trusted in developers too much to tell us what the consumer wanted. That was a mistake. We've since put a structure in place that lets us look at titles in development and wonder if it's actually the end-user who's telling us what they want. We like to pride ourselves on being developer friendly, but you can only go so far.

We're a company concerned with intellectual property now. We're trying to move in different directions and capitalize on cultural trends. For instance, the hip-hop and online gaming crazes...we want to stay up on them. We're also big on edgy, inspirational titles [like] Hitman and Thief.
There are nothing but damn fools at Eidos. They will certainly fall now. I am officially boycotting Eidos as of ....now. [/quote]

With only one person in the world boycotting them, I'm sure their corporation will be crushed!

your right it is just another reason for me not to waste money on crappy games in the first place. No they probably won't be crushed by me but if they release another Tomb Raider or 3 they will surely fall.

Thief really wasnt fully medieval, anyways. It was always more of a Steampunk setting (atleast in 2), but I dont think those clowns at Eidos could pin that concept down.

Of course! Why fix the error when we can draw more attention to it?

Deus Ex. :giggle:

I don't care much about DX, but when I hear "not enough people bought it. We'll fix that in the future.", I hear "We're gonna fuck it, hard".

Its interesting to note that this buttmuncher claims Invisible War was a good game with solid reviews, but seems to be oblivious to the fact that Deus Ex got much more universal praise than the sequel - I daresay most of the positive reviews were from the console version, and in that case, they're not really looking at the problem in the right way. A game like Invisible War will obviously appeal to a market layer that didn't play many, if any, games like it before; whereas for PC gamers, Invisible War was lacking precisely because it was nothing exciting or particularly well done.

That a game gets 'solid reviews' means, or should mean, shit if there area several voices of dissent towards it, or if the game's success is being analyzed with arbitrary data and regulations.

Oh come on. We can take 'em all on. We're not an underpaid developing staff hellbent on producing quick-and-easy (and shitty) games for a company who will overprice and underproduce. We could take those bastards. We have all of the fire and fury that DAC can muster. And a black person or two. You can't fuck with those or they take you to court.
off topic? OMG YOU'VE BEEN CENSORED... yet you're still posting. MYSTARY!!!!
