I played FO1 long before FO2, so I feel FO2 is sort of a bastard (I still love it, don't get me wrong). I'm looking forward now to these mods. I think it sounds great. FO2 will be a whole new game that is a better representation of what FO2 could have been.

I played FO2 first as well, but I still tend to agree with the FO1 purists.

I wouldn't mind seeing a mod that simply removed the Temple of Trials and started you off in the Elder's hut. Should be a piece of cake, so I'll do it myself.

Why is the temple of trials such a big deal? You can just run through it, and steal the key from the guy guarding the exit. You might have to stab/kick a few ants on the way, but so what?

Basically because it doesn't make any sense.

Where did it come from? Andcient mythological Aztek civilization? In what, Nevada? That nobody knew about before this tribe wandered there and forgot everything about anything. Ok.

It was allegedly built from the ruins of an old church, which is a huge load of horseshit.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

Better version. Explains some more stuff. Download here or at NMA if they ever end up hosting the file.
+++++++++++

FO2 Setting Improvement v2

Trys to alter FO2 to come more in line with Fallout 1's setting.

-----------------Current Changes:

Replaces gold coins with beautiful, beautiful caps.

Changes some silly Easter Eggs, now more useful.

Replaces Temple of Trials with short path.

Lots of new Arroyo dialogue, better reason for getting GECK.

Altered Arroyo maps.

New Navarro dialogue.

Enclave in NAVARRO no longer hands out plasma rifle and Adv. Power Armor to new recruits (great policy guys). Now they hand out yellow key pass for uniform. Enclave in Navarro now have less adv. Power Armor to hand around to guards.

NO MORE SUPER DEATHCLAWS! Never again hear this out of mouths of Fallout 1's savage killers:

"I have spent many sleepless nights, deep in thought, pondering just such issues. I have finally come to the conclusion that the burdens and responsibilities associated with the gift of intelligence are countless. There are only two choices available to any thinking being. Either accept life as it comes and make the best of it for yourself and others, or simply cease to be. I have chosen to accept the challenges of life. If this makes me a threat to humankind, then I pity the small mind that finds it so..."

The Enclave experiments were failures, no one can alter their animal instinct to survive. They won't attack you as long as you don't threaten their survival. Goris can still join.

----------------------------

++++Installing:

Extract using folder names to your Fallout 2 folder.

Rename PATCH000.dat to something else or mod mite not work.

Tried changing mod to a .DAT file and running with Modrunner but first map change would cause crash, let me know if anyone can get it to work.

Damn now that's right on the money. I like the idea of different FO:2 because it seems interesting so I'm going to DL it and give it a chance if I don't like it oh well at least it got a spot in the sun for a little while.

Hmm, I played Fallout 1 when it first came out and loved the hell out of it. I can't even count the times I replayed it in so many different ways. Then I played Fallout 2 and loved the hell out of it. I also cannot count the number of times I replayed it differently either.

The ONLY thing I didn't like was having to do was the Temple of Trials. If thats makes me a weirdo, so be it.

Caps did appear in Fallout 2, which was pretty funny. Oh, maybe you should remove all the humor in F2, HUMOR BAD!

I know why Caps were not the currency of the wasteland in F2, but I didn't know what exactly made coins the new currency of the wasteland either. I still don't, yet I've never found it impacting my experience at all. It would have been nice if it were explained to me, but I don't find that I must suckle on the teat of allknowing knowlegde constantly.

Anyhoo, if you make that Arroyo part (that works) seperate I'll try that, but like I said before the rest of your hacks are meaningless in mine eye.

Replace FO2 with FOT, and you start making some sense. Sigh, where oh where did OnTheBounce go?

Neither personally it was FO2 was funny but it was like they tried to drop a fuck-ton of funny that just wasn't funny in the first place.

Grey_Ghost: Gold coins (aargh, GP) became the Fallout currency because Redding's mines are all GOLD! GOLD, Y'HEAR! GOLD! And I kinda liked the gag with the midget and the well. It made me go "ha, midgets".

I like what I'm reading here. Good work, Human Shield.

Lol, why the hell would anyone care about Gold in the wasteland? Is it just for the sake of being Gold, just what would it be any good for?

I always spend as little time in Redding as possible, first three or so games I never even visited it. I can honestly say I know little about what goes on in Redding.

What would people need green pieces of paper for nowadays?
It isn't the particular use of a currency that makes it valuble, it's the agreed value of it. The possibility of using it as payment instead of trading services.

Ugh, must everyone be so difficult. I know Bottle Caps were backed by the Hub's water supply. So WTF was backing Gold coins?

Gold has always had a value based on its rarity. Every civilization since the dawn of man has considered it a valuable metal. I guess you need to read Adam Smith or something to understand the complete economics of money.
