Omega Syndrome 1.92

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[Game -> Update]

I spotted this yesterday but forgot to post about it. Omega Syndrome, a 'Fallout clone', has been updated. You can get the update here. There is only one fix:

Bug Fix!
I fixed a problem in the turn based combat. Some of the creatures were not attacking and the combat halted. Sorry about that folks.

At least the bug is fixed now.

Spotted at: RPG Codex

Odd, I downloaded a demo a year ago and it was a different game with crappy real-time combat and had nothing to do with Fallout.

The game's full turn based now. I'm covering it because the combat is similar to Fallout and it falls into the same category as why we cover JA3 news on here....
it's not free but there is a demo version you can play

Omega Syndrome...Not Bad

Post by Maximous »

Bought Omega Syndrome and played it for 2 hours. I actually liked the game. For $15.00 it is worth it. There is enough in the game to make it fun, and it is a hell of a lot better then Fountain of Dreams or Kief the Thief. Turn based is pretty good, you can "Target," it's 3/4 isometric view, and the graphics aren't all that bad. The cons are minor, only your main characture can trade (easy to get around that), and the map-moving is a bit constricted at times. However, if you want to play a turn-based, pretty good RPG, and for $15.00 I'd recommond it. I say this because I haven't seen a new RPG in over 4 years that isn't "Fantasy". Playing Baldurs Gate again is a bit old, and I can't load Wasteland, FO1 or FO2 for at least another 2 years (I've played those at least a total of 30 times).

Maximus, nice summary. If you expanded your thoughts into a full, detailed review, once you've played the game some more/completed it, I'd be happy to post it on DAC.

From what I have heard of Omega Syndrome is that it is good. But from what I have seen it looks like a pos. Which is it? Good? Bad? or Absolutely Horrid?
Ignore my warnings and pay no heed then your live will be ended shortly indeed!

i haven't got far in it, it's pretty clunky, but then again i find replaying the fallout games clunky because of the 640x480 graphics....

Clunky or Not

Post by Maximous »

I'd say that Omega Syndrome (OS) is like a Wasteland 2 upgrade. It's not really the graphics that keep us playing Wasteland or FO1 or FO2...its the mechanics of the game. AP, Targeting, basic Skills, leveling are all what make a great RPG...especially if it is a NONE Fantasy RPG. I feel like I can't cast another spell, read another Tome, choose between Wizard, Elf, or Ranger. If it says “Dungeons and Dragons…. I almost begin to weep because I miss Post Apocalyptic Games so much. In all honesty, if you like None-Fantasy RPG…then Omega Syndrome is THAT game. I don’t know what else to say. If anyone says it’s not polished I’ll scream. Name me one game since the release of Fallout 2, October 27, 1998, that was fun to play…that is “5 years ago. It is so nice to sit down and play OS and not a fantasy game…I truly don’t know what to say.
