You don't get it.well, the way I see it. I havent looked into any numbers or anything, but If its legal to have them, more ppl will have them, and then probably some will be stolen and find their way onto the black market...
I'm not really into this gun thingy, maybe thats why I think its stupid to allow such guns.
they're really not needed... by anyone. (excpt for criminals and coppers and military)
Criminals will get all the illicit things they want regardless of whether it's illegal or not. That's what makes them criminals. It's like our failed canadian gun registry. It racked up expenses millions more than forecasted and all it has served to do is incovenience law abiding gun owners.
Questioning the legitimacy of assault weapons is the same as questioning the legitimacy of a civilian possessing -any- firearm. It's -not- necessary it's not an essential need.
It would however be hella cool to go hunt a deer with a mac 10.
Now suburbanite pansies who complain that they don't like the apperance of a certain type of gun don't have any say anymore. Don't like the looks of it. Don't look at it.
They had some surgeon on the news talking about how assault weapons create such inoperable and deadly wounds. The thing he's neglecting to say is that these assault rifles fire the same rounds found in your average hunting rifle.
And as for ammunition types. Last I heard frangible munitions weren't legal were they? So it's not an issue of different munitions. It's just instead of being able to fire tens of .308 or .223 winchester rounds a minute, you can now fire a few hundred.
The difference is only in how substantially more fun it would be to fire a few hundred bullets... and yes. That's all the justification I would ever need!
