Elder Scrolls 4 = 3rd Person !!!?!?
[ -> Preview]
The folks over at RPGDot have posted some info sent to them by Serban from Jucaushii.ro regarding Game Informer's TES 4: Obvlivion preview:

- first-person and third-person perspective
- combat will be bloody and visceral
- the outcome of combat will not be decided by virtual "dice roll"
- it takes place in the world of Tamriel, specifically in the Imperial
Province of Cyrodiil
- the most amazing graphics that the console gaming world has ever seen
- either on foot or on horseback, players can explore a huge exterior world
- the dev. tools randomly populate areas, according to input parameters
(area type - e.g. forest, types of trees, bushes, soil etc.

As we are under the assumption that Fallout 3 will be developed using this engine, or something very similar, this gives me some hope. My guess, though, is that this third person perspective is a la Jedi Knight, not isometric. I just hope the engine can be easily modified to accomodate the isometric view.

It's Morrowind upgraded, basically... Deus Ex is the sci-fi version of the FPS/RPG hybrid, and Morrowind was the fantasy version. Both have *nasty* combat, and are primarily first-person, but remain two of the best games and best RPG's ever made... TES4 is basically to be Morrowind revisited in a new realm, with lovely graphics, and i'm hoping combat more like Rune, or Jedi Knight 3, as opposed to the DX-esque 'hit' 'hit' 'hit' 'hit' 'hit' 'die'.
When you make all your assumptions, bear in mind that even UT2004 has an RTS mod, with a topdown view, aswell as Halflife's Natural Selection with it's topdown rts views. Just because TES4:O will share the view types of TES3:M, it's not really any indicator of what viewpoint FO3 would use if made on this engine. It's not too much of an engine contraint to change the camera location. I'm thinking bethesda are busy with TES4 to extremes with the recent announcements they've made, and really just don't give a fuck about Fallout 3 at the moment because they already have their plates full.
Be Patient...

So I was cruising down mainstreet with my homies when I suddenly realized "Hey, I accidently made a double post, I sure hope that swell Dark Underlord guy fixes the problem that causes this soon."

Being that almost anything can be done with an engine in terms of changing viewpoint and gameplay, as what T-900 listed plus other examples such as "Operation IGI" was made from a flight simulator's engine, we shouldn't worry too much about TES4 = FO3, at this point anyways. I suppose we'll know soon enough, but I'm going of the idea that Bestheda aren't complete morons and actually take the time to put work into their games.
Also - As Susan mentioned, you could go 3-rd person in the PC (Not sure about x-box) version of moronwind. Too bad it still sucked. No real news here.

Yeah, in Morrowind you could switch between first & third on the Xbox, but the difference was that on the Xbox the view started out in third person by default, whereas on the PC it started out in first person by default.Wolfman Walt wrote: Also - As Susan mentioned, you could go 3-rd person in the PC (Not sure about x-box) version of moronwind. I have no idea if this is true for Bethesda's new engine and FO3, but it is for many other game engines/games today though.Mismatch wrote:not for me, elaborate.Araanor wrote:The graphical capabilities wouldn't need to be changed majorly. The isometric gameplay of Fallout, however, would have to be built from the ground as it is different from the gameplay of the TES games. Is that clear enough for you?
Typically the game engine is fairly low level. It mainly handles graphics. Something like changing it between a first-person view and a 3/4 overhead view is fairly trivial. There aren't many graphics related things that would need to be different between ESIV and FO3. There are however many gameplay differences between ES and FO, which is where this next part comes in: Developers add to this low level engine the higher level stuff that makes up all of the game's actual gameplay and interface. And they do this on a game-by-game basis.
At least that's what I think he was trying to say...
