Feargus Urquhart and Fallout 3 (and NWN2)
<strong>[ -> Interview]</strong>
There's a new <a href="http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3134617">interview</a> with <b>Feargus Urquhart</b>, of <a href="http://www.obsidianent.com/">Obsidian Entertainment</a>, on <a href="http://www.1up.com">1UP</a>. As we've come to expect from <b>Feargus</b>, it is filled with PR gumph, he has a dig at <b>Fallout</b> fans, and it generally pisses me off. Here are the relevant bits:<blockquote><i><b>CGW: Hey, totally random tangent, but I'm curious: What are your thoughts on the Fallout franchise now that its going over to bethesda? </b>
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: Well, a part of me is sad that I won't be involved in creating the next Fallout. I always thought we would get to do it.
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: Another part of me is glad not to do it.
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: It's sort of a no-win situation with what Interplay has done with the brand and the rabid fans that it has.
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: Plus, is the Fallout brand even pertinent anymore. Would it work with players today?
<br>
<br><b>CGW: how far along was fallout 3, anyhow? I know that it was in limbo for some time... </b>
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: Well, we made a go at starting it in early 2000, but that team ended up making Icewind Dale instead. Interplay needed a product turned around pretty quickly and Fallout needed a whole new engine.
<br>
<br><b>CGW: and now bethesda is going to scrap whatever's done and start fresh.
<br>
<br>CGW: at least Interplay has maintained the MMO rights... ;-) </b>
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: As for the next incarnation, after we stopped working FR6, since, ummmm, Interplay lost the D&D license to another publisher; they took that engine and were working on Fallout3.
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: I saw the demo fairly recently and thought it looked pretty good. It was a game they could have finished in a year.
<br>
<br><b>CGW: think that they'll use the Morrowind engine and just ship people to the future?</b>
<br>
<br>FUrquhart: I'm assuming they'll use the Morrowind engine as well. I wish them all the luck; it's going to be a hard road for them with the fans.</i></blockquote><b>Feargus</b>, darling, - or should that be <b>FUrquhart</b> - just because your company is a <b>Bioware Bitch</b>, you've sold out to <a href="http://www.microsoft.com">Microsoft</a>, and you can't give an honest interview (<a href="http://nwn.bioware.com/">NWN 1</a> was in no way a good game), doesn't mean you should take it out on us <b>Fallout</b> fans. You know, I'm kind of glad your company didn't get the <b>Fallout</b> license, seeing as you've got so much <b>sand in your vagina</b> about its fanbase. I guess the <a href="http://www.ladiesofneverwinter.com/">embarassments to humanity</a> that make up the <b>Neverwinter Nights</b> fanbase suit you better. After all, it was one of the <b>best games EVAR</b>.
<br>
<br>I especially love the fake buddy humour of that interview. All together now: <i><b>SLAM DUNK!</i></b>

Why fucking everyone needs to be politicaly correct and be neutral towards everything.

You know i can understand his hate for Fallout fans since we know how full of bullshit he is (slam dunk, lionheart combat, TORN beeing the game all Fallout fans would want, the Fallout2 bugs, unfinished quests and design chaos mess, etc) but putting us on the same level as Interplay, man that`s low, really low. So Fergus do please go outside and eat shit, don`t forget about the ketchup.CGW: Hey, totally random tangent, but I'm curious: What are your thoughts on the Fallout franchise now that its going over to bethesda?

OMG FALLAT FANZ AR TEH SUX.
Yeah. I think that says it all. But really. We are no worst than any other. In fact, I'd say BETTER than most. The greater percentage have a hint of that "maturity" that the internet lacks. You get rabid little fanboys for ... fucking... I don't know. Pick a game. How about Morrowind? (OMG POLITICAL UNCORRECTNESS) All we here from them is FALLOUT SUX WTF U RUINZ ARE GAEM!!!111

Feargus is just retarded and angry. He fucked up with Fallout 2, got the backlash and now he's gone Goth on the subject.
Fallout fans arnt just a bunch of mindless drones, much to his dislike, I guess? Must be why he's poking around with BioWare.
Also I just dont think he can handle our sense of humor that pops up every now and then (like the Wasteland). Wussy.

I think the SLAM DUNK thing touches a nerve as well. But as I said in my news post, the only phrase I can think to use to describe Feargus is that he has <b>sand in his vagina</b>.
As Fallout fans, we're not giving Bethsoft an easy time, but most of us are open to discussion with them until they announce features that would really piss us off (eg real time combat), and the beth devs so far - like mrsmileyfacedude - seem pretty amiable/decent people.

I like mrsmiley, he's always so not angrly and uptight and so...
I suppose relaxed in another word for it.
And from what I've understood devs seldom screw games up, its usually marketing and PR-ppl and the publishers who are responsible for the screwupping.
I'm trying not to be hostile and/or bitchy when posting, I don't want bethesda to start feeling like whatever they do i wrong.
however one does tend to get a tad repetative, since the game is so early in the development phase and thus the devs don't say much.
Which is sad really, since (if Im not wrong, which I well might be) it's now they make all them important descisions like TB, SPECIAL, Ron Perlman (oh please god, use ron perlman as a narrator), and view.
Though I suppose that by now they know what we want, though maybe not just how much we want it.
