Steampunk has a lot of steam, but not much punk I find. Or maybe it is because I read too many books on a dystopic future. They list Chrono series, Morrowind, Final Fantasy (sans 7 and 8) as examples of steampunk-ish games.

You know what's funny... I'm reading a Steampunk book right now, but I didn't even realize it. "Perdido Street Station" by China Mieville. It's a fantasy-steampunk though, not Victorian/Western.

I'd actually say it does for Fantasy what Dune did for Sci-Fi, Mieville is an excellent new fantasy author. Check him out.

Now that I think about it, there's really not much steam-gadgets involved... it's sort of a medieval urban setting with a futuristic style and fantasy elements... totally cool, if you're into that.

Susan, it does. After all, it was written by an author who does write steampunk... so it is related, in a round-about way.

James Clavell, steampunk? Where are you coming out of? Or am I unware of some books he wrote? Shogun, King Rat, Tai-pan, Whirlwind, Gaijin.... noneo f them are steampunk at all.

I can guarantee you that it's good, but I haven't read it yet. I know it's good from reading another book of his, and the critics reviews totally rave about it.

China Mieville is freaking awesome. Picked his book "The Scar" up the other day after reading a recommendation from some of the RPG Codex users pertaining to 'good books' and I'm currently very into the book. It's great. I can't wait to grab his others.
