The Movies, Music, and Games thread
It's all fine and dandy for the dialogue to be realistic (even though it technically wasn't) and the scenarios to be lackadaisical and "anything-goes". But without a sense of direction, it's just mindless jawboning. I just couldn't get attached to the movie because it didn't go anywhere. And I'm not talking about the fractured timeline; I'm talking about the utter lack of plot. In a sense, it's kinda cool that the film has no real mission statement, but on the other hand...no. Arty pretensions only work for a while, and then I need something to grab onto. The whole movie just felt like a waste of two and a half hours. And it's criminally overrated.

Favorite band : Orbital
Favorite track : "Sunday Monday Morning" by The Alpha Conspiracy
Favorite movie : Dark City
Favorite game: Planescape: Torment / Anachronox
Favorite book: Night Watch by Terry Pratchett
Favorite TV show: CSI: New York (I really liked the premiere. It seems a lot darker than the other two shows. Somewhat reminiscent of Hannibal.) Used to be Stargate SG1, but that became really stupid during the 4th season and it hasn't improved since. The plots are especially childish, I can't stand them.

The Clash's weakest track was Rock the Casbah. It's funny how you find it to be their best. That evidently displays your lack of taste in rock music - not mentioning the fact that Garbage sucks in a multitude of echelons.Subhuman wrote: They're also boring as hell. (Except for "Rock The Casbah", of course, which is gold.) And I'm sick of people being such snobs about rock bands. "Ugh, you don't like the Clash? Are you, like, retarded or something?" No. I like music with variety. Blow me.

Did you play Anachronox recently, rex? I loved it from the first moment I played it years ago, but didn't think that many other CRPG fans got round to playing it.Exitium wrote:Favorite band : Orbital

It's characterisation and plot is equal to PS:T, although executed in a completely different way.
EDIT:I've been thinking about Anachronox after making this post, it's so quirky. If you thought FO2 had easter eggs and secrets, you need to play Anachronox. It has THOUSANDS of little things that most people won't notice. Like an entire language invented for the game, hidden messages in binary scattered around the game, things like if you approach a character at a certain time of the month he'll give you access to an apparantly inaccessable part of the game (the tower of nine enigmas, for anyone who has played the game), if you leave one of your party NPCs in a children's play area for four real time hours he'll come out with a special item, the way you can access the very last area of the game right at the beginning of the game and walk around it and talk to new people if you do things right (hard to do though).... there are so many.
You need to get out more. Really. There are large chunks of people who think that Pulp Fiction is one of the most overrated movies of all time, and they're right.Franz wrote:Wow... you realize that you're pretty much the ONLY person EVER to think that Pulp Fiction is crappy?
What gives you that impression? I never said Kill Bill was anything more than an entertaining movie, which is all I need. That's all I asked of Pulp Fiction, and it failed to deliver. Hell, I liked True Romance better than Pulp Fiction.Wolfman Walt wrote:It's not so much that he thinks Pulp Fiction is crappy. I do, mostly because it manages to make a political statement without sacrificing musical quality. A lot of their songs put too strong a focus on "issues" without delivering a decent, well-written tune. (See also: Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, et al.) Again, I don't give two shits about political songs, unless the music matches up with the message.Exitium wrote:The Clash's weakest track was Rock the Casbah. Don't talk to me about "taste". I gave up being concerned about my CD collection years ago, when everyone was raving about Radiohead and I was utterly apathetic. Now I just listen to whatever moves me. If that includes Paula Abdul and The Human League instead of the Clash and Led Zeppelin, so be it. I don't give a shit anymore.Exitium wrote:That evidently displays your lack of taste in rock music - not mentioning the fact that Garbage sucks in a multitude of echelons.
And I'd give "Stupid Girl", "Queer", "I Think I'm Paranoid" and "Push It" another shot before closing the book on Garbage entirely. Those songs kick ass - well written, catchy, dark, good hooks, etc.
That's not the one with David Bowie, is it? Never mind. I didn't hear much about Anachronox when it was released, although I remember seeing a lot of ads for it. The story intrigued me, so depending on the system requirements (my computer = teh suckage), I might give it a shot.Teatime wrote:If you thought FO2 had easter eggs and secrets, you need to play Anachronox.
The one with David Bowie is Omikron : The Nomad Soul, and it's one heck of a game. Few people ever mention this game but in my mind it's one of the best video game ever : Kickass soundtrack, beautiful, dark, cyberpunk graphics, a lot of exploration to do, a good fighting system, interesting story. I liked it as much as FO.
Plus, David Bowie is IN the game
