Twilight War interview

[ -> Interview]

There's another Twilight War interview up, this time it's on Leak ... b>Anything you'd like to add or say to our development community?
There are a lot of negative issues with the MMORPG community at the moment. Too many companies have capitalized on the Everquest formula and so the community has stagnated, and many RPGers are not very happy. Of course they continue to play what is available, but many of us are looking for something to break the mold. Kudos to the couple MMORPGs that have tried to introduce first person shooter combat into the RPG realm. That is one step in the right direction. We are attempting many more steps with Twilight War. Our systems for player defeat (“death), encumbrance, faster paced FPS, intelligent AI, economics, faction system, and the entire method of traversing the large world will be either drastically different from the “norm or be new to the genre altogether.
Sounds interesting. Though it's still an MMORPG....

I have to agree with him that MMORPG market has been over saturated with too many Everquest Me-Too's. Especially when those Me-Too's end up flopping, ala Horizons.

However, I don't think adding first person shooter elements into MMORPGs are going to interest your stock RPGers. It might interest those console users, and UT2K4 players into taking their first enlightening baby step into the RPG scene, but definately not your average RPGer.
