The wasteland never looked so pretty

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[ -> Update]

No, not a reference to The Wasteland forum, rather, a screenshot Mr. Leonard Boyarski of Troika Games just took about 10 minutes ago for us. The shot is from Troika's as-yet unsigned post-apocalyptic game. I'm sorry for ever doubting you and your devotion to Duck and Cover, Leon!
Check out the deformable terrain and teh pretty lighting.

If it had been sent to me a week later, it would have been in an image gallery, so apologies for the full size if anyone's on dial-up.

EDIT: I changed it from the image, to a link to the image. So we don't seriously mess up the width of the front page for low res users ~ DarkUnderlord

That is a very good screenshot! We are getting closer to having the quality of a 2D prerendered background, only in 3D. This oughta give Bethesda a run for their money.

Can't wait to see more.

I think a publisher would be crazy not to want to pick up a game that looks like that, and especially when we know these guys can make quality games (which is a rare thing nowadays).

Nothing like a slow-moving localized apocalypse to really make you think about proper data backup procedures.

Maybe Leonard can give us a publisher update here? That smiley isn't related to this post, I just wanted to use it...

It looks very promising, but the green circle annoys the hell out of me. I would much prefer a white circle if there has to be a circle.

now that is neat. we got a good medium close-up view of another area. im just kinda iffy on the costume tho..looks very Arabianish. nothing against Arab people, just its connection to the game. Did any of the devs mention where its taking place? :joy:

'Arabianish' clothing appears to be suitable for post-apocalyptic deserts. Especially if the guy hasn't got any nice protective clothing from before the apocalypse.

What makes you think it's deformable? I probably missed it in the interview or something.

I'm also not a fan of the bright green circle, or the fact that everything is red. I noticed this in the previous screenshots, too... I hope the game ends up using more color than a few shades of red.

Uh... nice use of rust? Looks okay, I guess.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

My guess is that it's also part of the lighting. Maybe a late afternoon into twilight hour, or possibly a morning lighting scheme.

As for "deformable terrain," I think Mr. Teatime was just referring to the multi-tiered ground or whatever. I'm not really sure how to put it into words. Its the way the terrain bends and dips with little mounds, hills, or whathaveyou. Makes for a much more realistic look and feel than other 3D games.

The 'deformable terrain' refers to the fact that in Leon's email, he said that the screen shot shows off the engine's deformable terrain.

RGE, Hal Halberd there is just a placeholder for the tech demo.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.
