[Community -> Update]
We're on a new host, Sorcerer's Place, as most of you are aware. This means that the server is faster and more responsive, we have more space to host files, everyone can access the site, and, in general, the world is a better place.

It also means that I have to pay each month to keep the site running. This is something I've agreed (though wasn't expecting a few months ago) to do, so I can't complain - much. However, there are a few new things on the site that you can do to help out.

Whilst it's not working yet, we're considering having a small pop-up advert displaying once every eight hours. Pop-ups bring in three times the revenue of a normal advert, although only if they're allowed to fully load. Otherwise they generate $0. So, the first thing you can do to help keep this site running is let any advert displayed load completely before shutting it down in disgust.

Donate to DaC. There is a paypal button right below the picture of the week, and soon there will be one at the top of the forums. The button goes straight to our host's paypal account, marked as donations for Duck and Cover: neither myself nor any of the other staff has access to this money. Donations can be anonymous, or you can PM any one of the staff to let us know you've donated. Making a donation is the best thing you can do to help DaC, although it is completely optional - DaC will remain open to anyone and everyone, regardless of any donations you may or may not have made. If you do want to donate, you could make it a small, regular donation (monthly, every two months, or whatever you want to do) or a one-off payment: it's up to you. Any form of money recieved is a great help.

Duck and Cover has a bright future. For a bunch of random people thrown together to try and pull the site out of its coma, everyone on the new staff has done pretty well, in my opinion, and things are only going to get better. Every month, our traffic increases. DarkUnderlord is putting a lot of work into a site redesign that will stun everyone into awed silence when it's unveiled (hopefully by the end of this year). The logo design and caption contests have not been forgotten and are all being incorporated. King of Creation and myself have been going through nearly every page on the site, updating URLs and stylesheets, installing scripts and making sure they work on the new host and with the new URL.

That's all for now. Back to flaming Rex.

A few people have been asking how much the server costs each month, and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be public: the maximum I'll be paying is $50/month, though that's not taking into account advertising revenue (which is never that much). It's reasonable considering what we're getting in return.
RPGCodex had a similar situation with donations. What happened, if I remember correctly, was that they got about 4 months' worth of donations in one go that meant the server was completely funded by donations for a few months, which, if we raised a similar amount, would be what would happen with DaC as well.

I need status now... I need some kind of elevation to mark me.. i just realised what an influx of idiots we're going to have invading once bethesda do something with Fallout 3 and start making announcements.

No credit card? No problem, so that's not an excuse. I accept donations via mail or bank account transfer. See http://www.sorcerers.net/Main/helping_sp.php#bank for details.
