No, Kash, you like a game that bears the Irrational Games logo. There's a difference.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

So you're saying EA didn't publish it then?

I agree with Pyro.

I think we might see an official response from EA about this, as the livejournal entry is getting quite a bit of press coverage.

Not all companies abuse their employees the way EA apparently is....oh, right. You don't like reading. Never mind.

Doesn't the US have any employee regulations?

Why should I take the time to draw you a damned picture? Are you six years old? Guys, let's put everything in easy-to-read tidbits so that poor widdle Megatron can understand. He doesn't like to read stuff, you know. He doesn't like context. God, you're annoying.

In THE WORLD, "arse-face", companies have to follow regulations for their employees. They're not allowed to schedule employees for more than 40-or-so hours per week without overtime pay, and they're not allowed to make them work more than 8 hours per day, unless there is a written agreement between employer and employee and again, overtime pay is included. This is how they do it in Canada, but I'm assuming there is something similar for US employment.

My point is that I'm suprised nobody complained sooner, and that EA has been apparently doing this for a while.

How did that not make sense?

US Department of Labor
Teh Act wrote:Unless specifically exempted, employees covered by the Act must receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek at a rate not less than time and one-half their regular rates of pay.
The site also explains required health benefits, minimum wage requirements, etc.

The employees probably signed some shit wheh they got hired and now they're noticing how stupid they really are. Like I said earlier, TOUGH SHIT, you're not alone suffering.

A really good film to watch is called 'swimming with sharks', it's sometimes sold as 'the buddy factor'. it stars kevin spacey, it's about a guy who works at a job and is treated like shit by his boss (kevin spacey), it gets so bad that the guy goes into his boss's house at night and starts torturing him, then... er, goes mad and shoots his girlfriend dead.

But it's really good, and his boss, whilst being tortured, says stuff like 'you can walk out of the job', and.... yeah.
very good film though.

They can kill, torture, suicide, just as long as they don't whine and cry on live journals, goth style, like attention whores.

.
For what it's worth I agree with you.

However I seem to remember that recently (last few years) you could clamp down on paying the 1.5x OT as reclassifying as "professional services" so you could work them without the pay due.

The other problem is that a large amount of people in the programming business, especially these days, would give an arm and a leg to work on computer games. This gives you the ability to pick up a new employee rather quickly and you gain the power to fire almost anyone and replace them on a moments notice.

This isn't that uncommon, illegal, probably, unethical, definately, unique, far from it.

I hear that EA has a pretty high turnover rate even for what it is. The current situation is that if an american company like EA wants to it generally can pull crap like this.

It's a shame, quite a few companies had a crunch time near deadlines, even having employees work 12 hours a day six days a week, however it used to be that you got a nice period of rest afterwards, a bonus and the pay that was coming to you. These days some just abuse their employees without the niceties at the end.

Never said it didn't. I said I was suprised that those employees put up with it for so long. I would have said goodbye at the first sign of EA's abuse. Of course, these people probably didn't want to just up and quit without having a backup plan, which is why your "OMG SHUT UP WHINY GEEKS GET ANOTHER JOB OMG" doesn't really hold water. It takes time to a) find another job, b) get an interview for said job and c) make the necessary preparations to leave your current job and set up at the new one.
