Retlaw83's Classic FOT mod
<strong>[Game -> Mod News (DO NOT USE - use MOD > UPDATE instead)]</strong>
<b>Retlaw83</b> has let me know he's released a mod he's been working on, that "<i>makes FOT feel like Fallout</i>".<blockquote><i>This mod changes all the real world guns in FoT to weapons found in the Fallout RPGs. I've found that this balances the game more, as it changes when you recieve which class of weapon. I used the original game's weapon sounds, which I got from the FoT single-player demo. I took the descriptions and weapons stats from both Duck and Cover and Fallout 2. The graphics came from OnTheBounce's Fallout 2 sprite pack. I had made sprites of half the weapons and all the ammunition before finding OTB's much more professionally done sprite pack.
<br>
<br>The only original FoT firearms left are the acid sprayer, zip gun, spear gun and grenade launcher.
<br>
<br>The only two problems that I know of are that weapons and ammunition sometimes do not stack correctly in the inventory screen, and in rare cases enemies may not be carrying the appropriate ammunition for their weapon.</i></blockquote>You can download this <b>1.15mb</b> mod <a href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/files/classic.zip">here</a>. Nice work, <B>Retlaw83</b>.
<br>
<br>PS: As part of <b>Dark Underlord</b>'s new system, we'll have a much better system for hosting files. Until then, just <a href="mailto:mr_teatime@duckandcover.cx">email them to me</a> when you want them hosted.

If there are any problems, let me know.
Some weapons didn't make the cut; the 14mm pistol is a major ommission because the campaign won't support a single weapon that uses its own ammo. I could replace the grenade launcher, but that's an important part of the player's arsenal late in the game.

I wasn't aware they had an over-powered "cone" setting - I thought the weapon needed that to make buckshot work like buckshot, but now that I think about it that would be a bullet characteristic...OnTheBounce wrote: I'm dl'ing it right now, but I have to ask: did you take the god-awfully over-powered "cone" setting off the shotguns?
I'll fix that in the next revision, if there is one. Or feel free to do yourself. I don't care what anyone does to this mod, just so long as they e-mail me if they plan on putting a changed version on the internet or find something interesting they think I might like to see.

The problem w/the "cone" setting is that rather than resolving an attack as multiple projectiles it simply attacks everything within range that falls into a rather wide cone. I ran some tests to confirm it way back when the editors first came out and sure enough you can hit obscene numbers of targets with a single attack, even if you do not use Burst mode. I used to have a screenshot of PipBoy armed w/a Pancor after he had just killed 29 dummies w/a single shot. (So much for the Infantry Box on the FO battlefield...)Retlaw83 wrote:I wasn't aware [shotguns] had an over-powered "cone" setting - I thought the weapon needed that to make buckshot work like buckshot, but now that I think about it that would be a bullet characteristic...
Edit: BTW, thanks for the props in the readMe, but I have to say that the sprite packs I made were only possible thanks to Domin's Spray, and Red!'s RedViewer. Those two definitely deserve a hand.
Cheers,
OTB
