Some more STALKER stuff

The fourth STALKER developer diary for the Russian PC Games magazine is now <a href="http://stalker.myexp.de/forum/viewtopic ... >available to read at Oblivion-Lost.com.
The question of what the game will be like was asked even at the beginning of the development, but it was not defined well then, since it was not critical. And then came the moment of truth, when development had to acquire a definite direction. The brain tank started working again, now working out the details of what our project will be like. The main traits were agreed on immediately. The desire to make a game different from the others led to the player not becoming the main hero. Enough of saving countries and worlds! Here everything is like in real life. You are just one of many. Only your own actions (and not the programmist's wishes) will set your character apart from the crowd. If you do not follow the plot (which is possible) and simply explore the Zone, earning money, it can happen that some other stalker finishes the main quest for you. Wouldn't it be embarassing to have some stupid bot pass S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for you? This is no joke. This is actually possible. If we make the player a supermegahero, all our efforts of creating game atmosphere and modelling social interaction would be wasted.
I like the sound of being a supermegahero.

Wait - so an NPC can finish the game for you? Am I missing something?

Great! Then you don't really have to play it... just turn the damn thing on once you buy it and go off and dissapear into a drinking binge with some other degenarates, and after a couple of days, once you return the game is finished! Ha ha!
There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.

After seeing the latest shots... my small glimmer of hope grew to twice it's normal size. Now if they can only deliver on all the gameplay features they have promised without cutting anything else.
