Things not looking good for Land of the Dead
[Community -> Update]
Just when you start to think George Romero will come along and show everybody how a zombie movie is done, some bullshit news surfaces that can be a sign of things to come. Movies Online got word of Romero walking off the set on the final day. Here's a bit of their disturbingly optimistic interpretation:
There is absolutely no reason to panic since he walked off on the final day of shooting 5 hours before it was supposed to wrap. Look at it like leaving early on a friday. The rumors of him quitting the movie, or just giving up and throwing in the towel are silly. The producers and the rest of the crew stepped in and finished shooting the film which was just insert shots that they needed. Considering it was only 5 hours before the final wrap it was obviously only going to be small things that needed to be done. Something that they could do easy enough without George. Mr. Romero is a really cool guy and it is shown by the fact that 2 days later he was at the wrap party and seemed in good spirits.
On a lighter note, Roy Frumkes, directer of Document of the Dead (a documentary on the original Dawn of the Dead), is putting together a new behind the scenes article. Sometime later next year before Land is released the Independent Film Channel and Monster Channel will air his coverage. Damn that sucks. At least they got through principal photography. Anyways I hate it when fucking execs want you to do things differently simply because they want to make the movie more "friendly" to the audiences. In case they haven't noticed, Land of the Dead is a ZOMBIE MOVIE which means the following: Gore (and lots of it), Head Shot (which is more gore), Guns, Hot Chicks (possibly even nudity), Banquet Scenes (when some hapless sap get his shit ripped apart by alot of hungry zombies and there is lots of guts and blood), Profanity (and fuck you too!), and just rated R almost NC-17 badassery which justifies a Romero flick. I hope that he will do more movies and I hope those chicken shit execs will fucking leave him alone because they don't know how to make a good movie, veteran directors and actors do no pussies. I know the execs control the money that goes into making the movie so they need to fork over as much as possible so that they can make the best possible movie in this case it's a badass zombie movie.
Ignore my warnings and pay no heed then your live will be ended shortly indeed!

Does anyone else think that this movie was put together WAY too quickly? I mean, it seems like only a couple of months ago, they were announcing that Romero was thinking about doing this. And now, bam, principle photography is already done?

They're doing it a lot with horror films at the moment. The cinema release is a cut down pg-13 version, then they release the x-rated version on DVD. It's just money-grabbing, because horror fans will go and see a release and buy the DVD, but it stinks. Recent example was AvP, though apparantly the film still sucks with the gory scenes put in. The Grouch will have censored scenes for the US theatrical release, I think Ring 2 as well.
I hope it doesn't happen with Land of the Dead, and it's 100% gory.
