There have been quite a few things happening lately about this series, so I'll just pick the best bits and link them. Firstly, Ain't It Cool News have reviewed an early screener of the film, and are pretty positive about it. One of my biggest fears for the film is having a rapper, complete with silly name, play Ford Prefect:
My biggest fear going into this film was Mos Def playing Ford Perfect. While his first few lines fall flat, once Arthur (Martin Freeman) and he go into the bar where Ford tells Arthur about the impending doom of planet Earth he fits comfortably into the character. Although there are a couple more spots where he falls a little flat, that's nothing a little over dubbing won’t fix.
The teaser trailer for the film is now playing, in the UK at least. And by going here, you can find out what the film has done to represent Zaphod's second head. I'm guessing literally having a second head would be too much for the FX department.
On the meaning of life, Nick Webb, the official biographer of Douglas Adams, has made a forum post talking about how he thinks Adams came up with the number 42.

Finally, you can play the original <a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers ... tchhiker's Guide text adventure on the BBC's website. It was written by Douglas Adams himself in 1984, and has the reputation of being one of the hardest games ever made, in the world, ever, so play it and see how hardkore you really are.

The Hollow Men

One of modern and post modern life's consistent cliques is ""The book was so much better than the picture.""
A variant of this all too tedious truism in regards to ""The Hitchhiker"" may be that, the BBC Radio play was so much better than this "picture".
This major motion picture treatment of "The Hitchhiker"" sounds less "major" and more mediocre if this two headed Zaphord is as pitiful as it seems ridiculous. Even the cheesy TV version will have more Artistic Integrity (AI) than the shills that are profiteering from this media venture while saying they are Douglas Adams "friends".
Adams held out for decades to get the movie treatment of his intellectual property done 'properly'. Adams' Sci Fi comedy had "no legs" until "Men In Black" proved to the movie-media-money men that 'the market' could handle 'the concept'. The shallow men, ""The Hollow Men"", that ride the corporate comets, project their limited visions on us all, ..., until they are caught napping by the more 'enlightened' adventurers, the less reptilian conservative, producers, directors, and screen writers, ... and FX wizards.
FX are so much a part of the movie/TV biz, in these digital days, that 'the players' mime their roles in minimalist, blue screen back lit, sound stages, and are clueless to the scene until the screening.
Where will these trustee's of D. Adams' pan galactic estate be saving money if Zaphord's second head is depicted as a talking 'Adam's Apple"?
Cheap production values justified by ... a cheap pun.
Some paranoids whisper that 'the lawyers' rule the world. If this TWO FACED treatment of Douglas Adam's artistic vision is mere cost engineering, my guess is that it is really THE ACCOUNTANTS that are the gate keepers.
Once again this century, I am reminded of a poet of the past century, and I fear the last lines of ""The Hollow Men"" will apply to HHG the motion picture.
