Stupid Computers.

Post by ExtremeDrinker »

So I burned out another motherboard. No fire this time, though. Just dead. I'm building a new computer, now.

What are some good sites with barebones systems to customize? Fuck Dell, Compaq, HP, Gateway, etc. Just looking for a random site that can put together the computer (entire system sans monitor) I want for under $1000.

I really wish Newegg.com could throw one together for me. I use them for random purchases all the time. Then again, I could probably get all my parts from them for about $700....I'm just not sure if I am too lazy to put it together and troubleshoot the errors I'm bound to get.

Yeah, I suck with computers as well... I'm good at burning out motherboards too.
Let's start a club?

Fuck up a processor fan installation, turn on the power and you're set.

My computer runs 24/7/365. Lots of really greedy programs and hardware, too. Inadequate power supply.

Not in case of Noiseblocker Cool Scraper supermegahypercooling-gigathing:

http://www.noiseblocker.de/shop/de_DE/p ... raper.html

Two bags of screws and steel plates are required for the installation... And after I burnt down my motherboard I took my comp to a professional to have the fan installed and I think he used another bagful of shit to make it stay put. And *not* to burn my mb again.

At least it's effective :|

I usually get fans with plastic pins... so I just need to pus em down when the fan is in place :chew:

Yeah... that was the case with my regular fan,
the default one which came with the processor.
But apparently Germany isn't that far in technology.
They have yet to discover plastic pins.

monarchcomputer.com is good, directron.com is good.

I've purchased from both, with excellent results.

Thanks for the links, Pope. Checking them out now to see how well they compare pricewise to the other sites I've been looking at.

I don't know how things are working to order from Canada, but www.a-power.com is pretty good.

just buy Apples new cookie box. The Mac Mini. Its ultra cheap and it doesn't have fucked up specs that'll make you burn through mobo's. Plus it looks nice.

Only downside is you can't game on it.

Dude, this is the problem with computers. You can either buy a pre-packaged system for X amount of dollars (or euros, Deutschmarks, Francs, whatever), and have a reliable name-brand disposable (i.e., not upgradeable) PC. No hassles, but you can never get exactly what you want. You will always compromise.

Or, you can build your own custom PC, with all of the parts you want, but guess who is tech support when one part conflicts with another, and crashes the whole damn system? That's right, you.

So, you can either be treated as a child (by buying a Gateway, Dell, Compaq, etc.), or go it alone. It's a bitch.

[/rant]

Sorry about that, but reading this thread brought all of that up for me.

I've never had a prefabricated PC. I've put them all together on my own with random pieces. I don't mind being my own tech support. Unless it's a big problem that I can't track down myself...Which happened this time. I actually took my PC to the shop and they told me it was my hard drive. So I put my hard drive in my spare parts computer and it worked fine...Then they said it must be my RAM...So I put the RAM in the parts computer and it worked fine...Next they said it was the power supply (which is what I told them to check the first time I brought it to them...I've got lots of hardware and external things drawing power from the PC, so that was my first assumption).....Then they said everything was fine with my power supply, and that the only other explanation was a burned out motherboard. So they put the motherboard in an existing computer and it had the same problems...I was only out $29, though...So it's all good.

Now I'm building a new one. Turns out that second link Pope posted kicks total ass. Kind of odd that when I choose one of the "Back To School" PCs and upgrade everything to top-knotch (exactly what I want) it is only $748, but when I chose any other system, the same parts ALWAYS equal over $1100.

I think the best cure to all computer related problems is to suckerpunch the computer until it submits. Contrary to popular belief, this won't "harm" the computer, or "worsen the problem", because most common problems with computers are simply a matter of them not knowing who's the boss.

Friend Ryno, I suggest you get punchin'. Hey, it worked with my previous computer, and when it got infected with viruses beyond help, we just told the repairman he fell down the stairs.

Yeah. Take the 'puter to the freezer for a couple of hours, then throw it in a mild-heated oven for another bunch of hours. Then take it out, put it back on your desk and ask if he's still whining. Tell it, that "It could be a lot worse, m8. STOP BIATZHING!½"

take a 480v power supply drill some holes in your computer for some extra air inlet and take a cooler master cpu fan, that will prevent a burnout, and also what i hear a lot lately, check all the jumper settings on your MB if they allright, already 3 people i know burned out an asus MB without checkin those
You are losing it, doesn`t matter, let`s close our eyes and wake up from this dream.....
