Bethesda want YOU
<strong>[Company -> Update]</strong>
Thanks to <b>brillo</b> for letting us know that <a href="http://www.bethsoft.com">Bethesda</a> are now looking to hire people who have knowledge of the <i>Fallout</i> universe. On the <a href="http://www.bethsoft.com/links/bethsoft_jobs.html">job page</a>, the World Artist, Character Artist, Special FX Artist, Concept Artist and Sound Engineer all mention having knowledge of <i>Fallout</i> being a plus. The Character Artist, for example, says:<blockquote><I>Build and texture creatures and characters for the next generation of Elder Scrolls and <b>Fallout</b> games.
<br>
<br>Requirements:
<br>
<br> * Excellent fine art skills (sketch work and/or 3D concept work).
<br> * Excellent modeling and texturing skills.
<br> * Experience with 3D Studio Max and Photoshop.
<br> * Animation experience a plus.
<br> * Zbrush experience a plus.
<br> * Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, or 3D Design a plus.
<br> * Knowledge of Role Playing games and The Elder Scrolls or <b>Fallout</b> a plus.
<br> * Game industry experience a plus.</i></blockquote>Just make sure their knowledge of <i>Fallout</i> extends to more than big breasted women in <i>FOBOS</i> thongs.
<br>
<br><b>Brillo</b> adds, "<i>They've hired quite a few Elder Scrolls fans/modders in the past for Morrowind and Oblivion. Thought maybe some fallout fans here might be interested.</i>"

Interviewer:
"So John, what would you say your most lasting memory of Fallout was?"
John:
"Well, I guess that would be hookers and the Mafia dudes. Those really made Fallout stand out from the crowd."
Interviewer:
"Very true, John, no other game pushed sex and violence so far. Personally, I think that's why people loved it. Hookers and Mafia dudes were definitely the high points. Anyway, thank you for coming and we'll let you know when you can start working for us!"

Adorable notion, certainly, but only loosely founded on reality. They're not looking for lead designers or King Emperors of Your Ass. They're looking for junior this and assistant that and entry level those. The lead designer--the rightfully infamous Todd Howard--calls the shots and if he wants the game to be shit, it will be. Yes, a designer for a given area can make fill it with really neat quests and shit, an artist can draw really setting appropriate stuff and a programmer can write really terrible bugs to remind us of FO 1 & 2 (actually, BethSoft's existing programmers handle bugs pretty well on their own, come to think of it), but if the lead designer decides they're making a first person, real time, Xbox2 powered turd, that's what it'll be, no matter who gets the coveted Assisstant Junior Cumrag Cleaner's cubicle.Subhuman wrote:Maybe there might be the slimmest chance of FO3 being halfway decent if they have hardcore fans on board.

It's most likely not going to happen, but maybe Bethsoft could look into our fan community for a more 'official' consultant on the Fallout universe, rather than just posting on our boards occasionally. Maybe some level-headed, trustworthy volunteers from the community to sign an NDA and then consult about the game and universe.

Excellent idea..one which I believe Bethesda should really consider. A direct tie to the community would do wonders for fan confidence.Mr. Teatime wrote:It's most likely not going to happen, but maybe Bethsoft could look into our fan community for a more 'official' consultant on the Fallout universe, rather than just posting on our boards occasionally. I wouldn't mind making the commute down to Maryland once in a while either.

One of the things they should do is disregard the Fallout Bible and focus more or less on the original game for their trivia. If you play through the Fallout, there's alot of information - like how many people Vaults can hold - that doesn't jive with what Avellone wrote.
"You're going to have a tough time doing that without your head, palooka."
