Favorite Game Setting

Post by King of Creation »

[Community -> Update]

The folks over at <a href=http://ve3d.ign.com/?fromint=1#582235">Voodo Extreme have put up a new poll that could be of some interest to you.
This week's poll is What is your favorite game setting? Choices include fantasy, historical, modern-day, post-apocalypse, sci-fi and wierd crap. Wierd crap would of course the the default choice for 'other'. That, or those wacky acid trip inspired console games that Nintendo likes to put out. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.
As of this time, Post-Apocalypse is trailing both Sci-fi and Fantasy. So go and do you duty!
P.S. The poll in on the right hand side, under the banner ad.

To be honest I just want RPGs that aren't fantasy based. Unfortunately all the big RPGs are based on fantasy this year, such as Dragon Age, Oblivion, Gothic 3.

I really couldn't care less about the setting, if the plot and game system are immersive.

Fantasy RPGs can be grand, 'tis just that the industry has been and will for many reasons continue to be saturated, inundated and suffocated by lowest common denominator fantasy tripe - because (and as demonstrated by Bioware and Bethesda as but two examples), more often than not, that's what sells. Blame humanity.

I'd be upset they omitted Steampunk if I cared about the poll. :drunk:

Alternate history is the best, IMO.

"Steampunk" is one of those weightless buzz words like "electroclash" or "avant garde" that only pretentious knobs use. Don't be a pretentious knob, Blargh.

I prefer sci-fi, myself.

Or alternately, a genre. Genre is after all defined by expression and the common desire to classify it. It exists, it can be and likely already is a genre. Like many things - a matter of opinion.

And there I thought you had already made a decision. :drunk:

I don't see how liking steampunk makes you pretentious. Like Blargh said, it's just a genre, and it's easy to define, unlike avant garde and such.

How about cyberpunk? Or is that a little too electroclash tribal groove for you, Subhuman?
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Max Payne kind of crashed in its attempt to do film noir, so I dunno? Clearly you are some kind of miscreant, King of Creation, and no doubt in cahoots with Mr. "James" Teatime.

What about cyberpunk-post-apocalyptic? D: You could even throw in a funky technelectroclash soundtrack, with the odd tribal groove for good measure.
