More on Hitchhiker's Guide

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Film & TV -> Interview ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... tle=Robbie Stamp">Person: Robbie Stamp</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... ?title=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy">Film & TV: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy</a>

<strong>Robbie Stamp</strong>, producer for <a href="http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/main.html">The Hitchhiker's Guide</a>, whilst in San Francisco last weekend, <a href="http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/inde ... 0462">gave an interview to Sci Fi Wire</a> about the film. He says a lot of the cuts and changes from the original books were from Adams himself:

<blockquote><em>The </em><em>Hitchhiker movie, like the books, centers on the plight of
Arthur Dent (Martin Freeman), who finds himself on an odyssey with a
ship full of wacky aliens after Earth is destroyed to make way for a
galactic bypass. The new character of Kavula is a crazed missionary who
lost the election with Zaphod Beeblebrox (Sam Rockwell) for president
of the galaxy, Stamp said. "He's clever, whereas Zaphod is stupid and
charismatic. ... He's now a missionary ... or a high priest of a cult
that believes we were all sneezed into existence by the Great Green
Arkleseizure that's waiting for the coming of the Great White
Handkerchief. ... It's very Douglas." The Arkleseizure is based on a
3-D model of Adams' nose, Stamp added.</em>

</blockquote>
That doesn't sound so bad. I wonder how, as Fallout fans, we'd feel if
it were Tim Cain and the original Fallout team making the changes we're
worried about - real time and first person amongst others - because
they felt it fit their idea of how <em>Fallout 3</em> should work.

Actually it does sound bad.

Don't mess with the originals.
This is a story, something written down, not customizable like Fallout.

Leave it be damn it!

The original script for the movie was written by Adams himself. And the books were also a bit different from the radio series, which was first.

There's no "original" Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, like Ausir pointed out. What the fuck are you complaining about?

Apparently I was wrong then.
I'm used to the books, that's all.

Still seems like a bad twist though, imo =/

Eh. If Douglas wrote a shitty script and approved shitty actors, that's his fault.
