Hitchhiker's Guide: Douglas Adams wanted the movie

Post by Mr. Teatime »

<strong>[ Film & TV -> Interview ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... tle=Robbie Stamp">Person: Robbie Stamp</a> | More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... ?title=The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy">Film & TV: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy</a>

<a href="http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/inde ... 30479">Sci Fi Wire are reporting</a> that <strong>Douglas Adams</strong>
was the one who was pushing for the <a href="http://hitchhikers.movies.go.com/">Hitchhiker's movie</a> to be made,
presumably to attempt to silence people saying it's a sell-out.

<blockquote><em>"He believed with every fiber of his being that this could be a
sensational movie," Stamp, a longtime friend [and producer on the movie], said. "This could be a
phenomenal movie in the way that it had been a phenomenal radio series
and a phenomenal book, and I think we felt that in some ways he found
that quite hard to escape its clutches. ... Because I think there was
an element of him being overwhelmed by the amount that he wanted the
movie to happen, ... he found it quite hard to escape the clutches of
that desire. So getting that movie made was really important. But that
phone call, I remember him talking about new ideas." </em><em>Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy opens April 29. </em>

</blockquote>
The article also notes how Adams is given an Executive Producer credit in the film. I can't help thinking of <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120202/">State and Main</a>,
where they give anyone an Executive Producer credit to make them feel
important and to get them to do jobs no one else wants to do, but it's
probably different in this situation.

I don't personally know how many are planned, though it's a safe bet that the success of this movie will weigh greatly on wether or not there are any sequels.

I mean, is the movie based only on the first book, or on the first two, or something.

I fear that it'll be a hit'n'run movie... with absolutely no sequals, and if there are any, they'll suck balls.

Well... Your fears are quite warranted, that is certain... I guess we'll have to see what this movie produces. If it's good and hold true to the series... And if it catches the eyes of enough people, then perhaps we could have a few decent sequals.. If not, Then 1 decent movie would be good enough.
