Domain name and donations
[Community -> Update]
In a few months it will be a year since the new staff at DaC started
running the site. That also means the registration for the domain www.duckandcover.cx
will be expiring soon, unless we renew it. It costs $50 to renew for a
year, $123 to renew for three years. So basically, I'm asking for
donations to help pay for the domain name for as long as possible. A
year at the least, but if we get enough, for three years.
Looking at the number of people who vote on the front page polls, we
have at least 70 registered, regular users on the site. If everyone
sent in $2, we'd have enough for the domain for three years. If
everyone sent in $2.50, we'd have enough for three years with duckandcover.cx and be able to put in a claim for
duckandcover.net when it expires in a few months' time, having it
redirect to duckandcover.cx.
You can donate using the PayPal button on the forums, or by clicking here. If you want to donate but can't use PayPal, PM me and I'll try and sort something out, though PayPal is much more convenient.
The money goes into a PayPal account I set up for donations, and emails
announcing new donations are forwarded by PayPal to myself, King of Creation and Insane-Lark, to reassure people that one of us isn't going to run off with the money. All funds in this account will go back into DaC.
It comes down to whether you like DaC. We need money to keep the site
around - without the domain name, the site will die. We can't continue
our crusade of being nearly the best site ever without it. If you can afford to send a few dollars, please do so. To the
people who have already donated (you know who you are) - thanks.

Found this website. Should people be concerned?
There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.
Re: Domain name and donations
I'd be glad to donate some, but please set up an account to deposit money for those who don't want to use paypal.
I thought it was cybersquated by an asshole/company ? If it's making more than 2 hits a day with its current url, there's no way they're gonna give it up. See vault13.net, after all these years, that bastard still won't settle for less than 2000$ (it had 400 hits a day - a unique opportunity to make lots of cash (sic)).1554 wrote:we'd have enough to put in a claim for duckandcover.net

It's possible but I'm not sure how to do a live balance on the page. I can say that we've made enough to renew the domain for a year, which is good news, though not yet for three years, which would be the target IMO (and getting the .net domain so we can redirect it). So thanks for everyone who's donated so far, it is much appreciated, and hopefully people will continue to do soS4ur0n27 wrote:Add some place where we could see the balance of the paypal account or something.

I'll donate some money.
But...why in the fuck does the domain name cost $50 a year? I can't believe it - why would you go with such an expensive domain registrar? You got ripped off. That's insane.
I can't get over how insane that is - $50 a year?! WTF?!
WTF??
God damn. $50 a year. Maaaannn.
$50 A YEAR!! $50? Why hasn't someone brought up how much he's paying? $50 A YEAR??
Ok...
Anyway, I've got a total of $12.46 in my checking account, I'll donate $10.
But you have to look into a different domain name, or registrar, or something. $50 a year??
