Both games suck, everything sucks, especially Doom 3. with Half life 2 at least you could see what the fuck was happening.

This is actually why I liked Doom3 - the sheer amount of panic you can cause yourself without actually having a good reason other than "I set the speakers on full volume and there are some realy scary sounds in the background". You couldn't see shit(unless you messed with the gemma or whatever you call it), but you could hear a ton of shit happening, and that's where real fear starts hapenning, when you're on the tip of your toes and every little thing turns you to a totting idiot emptying the minigun on a lead pipe that suddenly started leaking gas. Personal opinion, take it or leave it.

See, the thing is that System Shock 2 did all that and more. With, like, a plot and stuff. And gameplay deeper than "point and shoot".
The original Doom did the same thing for me back in the day - I was so terrified I didn't want to play any further. I can still hear the snorts of the Imps like I played the game yesterday. But times change.
