I'll admit from the start, I know very little about this film. I
haven't seen any of the two film adaptions of the post-apocalyptic
novel <em>I Am Legend</em>, and I haven't read the book. Bearing that in mind,
I'll lift <a href="http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=19795">Aint It Cool's news post</a> on the subject:

York.. that means a pretty huge scale for this. Both previous
adaptations were in the more sprawling Los Angeles. Let's see where
this goes, I just hope they've kept the books ending... after all, the
title isn't I AM A LIVING LEGEND...

I saw The Omega Man a few years ago, it was enjoyable, a bit corny, but then again it came out in 1971, and what from the 70's wasn't a little bit corny? The decade that gave us disco cannot always be taken seriously.

Have not read the 'I Am Legend' book, so can not comment.
Some one more literary, could run on and on, long and far, with all the 'compare and contrast' potentials available with "The Last Man On Earth (1964)" and "The Omega Man (1971)".
Simply comparing what was 'hip' in Hollywood, and how 'effects' were budgeted, might shed some light on real and IMAGINARY market forces of 1964 versus 1971.
'The Last Man On Earth' might stand as a real movie, while 'The Omega Man' could be deconstructed into it's entertainment formula 'de jour' : body counts, rounds per minute fired, and of course CAR CRASHES.
I saw the Vincent Price feature on late night broadcast TV, in the '70's. So late at night, the early A.M., that there was no commercial or infomercial time sold, only station identifications.
There are a lot of lesser known movies from the 60's that were well enough made that they can be watched as 'movies' and not curiosities. I recall
'The Last Man On Earth' being one of them.
Saw the Charlton Heston vehicle as a second feature in some dollar movie in the mid '70's. The 'run and gun' crowd would most likely be hooked by the ""ACTION"", the gun play, the BABE.
We are dealing here with a story that delegates messianic virtues to "the chosen one' . Blood of the last man, the omega man , can save the survivors. Not so much the communion of a 'last supper' , but 'the last inoculation'.
If we consider another performance of Chuck, in "Soylent Green", Chucky implied "eat me", and here in " The Omega Man" he visually signaled, "drink me".
If we can suppress the homo erotic snickering, we are left with direct thrusts toward the ritual of sharing the 'body' of Christ.
I don't remember Vincent Price's character being 'deified'.
I do know that Charlton Heston WAS, and still IS. He once played Moses. Here in 'The Omega man', he 'died' in a Christ on The Cross position. Sledge hammer imagery. Some say he has since been laterally promoted to 'God' when he became the "talking head' of the NRA. The NRA is not a polite, subtle, - half measured - audience. We must grant the hammer's impact of that ""cold dead hands"" performance as approaching 'Biblical' iconography in the American political theatre.
Want a stereotypical image overlay of these two movies.

Will Smith is a douchebag. His dialogue in that movie was insulting - all the supposedly witty smart-ass one-liners - then again that's his whole career.S4ur0n27 wrote:I Robot was atrocious.
The only time I laughed in that movie was when the lead actress turned to him totally stonefaced and asked IIRC "Do you really think you're funny?" or something to that effect - pricelessly unintentional humor.
