GiN loves Restricted Area
<strong>[Game -> Review]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... Restricted Area">Game: Restricted Area</a>
<p>Game industry News have posted <a href="http://www.gameindustry.com/review/item.asp?id=546" target="_self">a (beta) review of Restricted Area</a>, awarding it 4.5/5 and basically saying it's great.</p>
<blockquote>
<p class="white_10pt"><em>Each character has their own back story that is
revealed, at least somewhat, in the opening intro of the game, which I
thought was cleverly done as you ride the train into your new hideout
area. Each character also advances in vastly different ways. The
martial artists is not going to be able to wield a plasma rifle and
Jessica can’t learn spells. But each one has their own special powers
that make them useful and fun characters to play.</em></p>
<p class="white_10pt"><em>In
a pretty neat twist, the characters actually get to meet one another in
the course of the game as part of the plot-enhancing missions.</em></p>
<p class="white_10pt"><em>Restricted
Area does a lot of things right. There is enough role-playing to keep a
hardcore RPGer like myself happy and just when the levels start to get
a little tedious, they seem to throw a boss level creature at you to
shake things up. And it’s nice to find a game of this type that is not
set in a medieval world. So for a sci-fi, shooter and RPG fix, sneak on
into Restricted Area.</em></p>
</blockquote>
<p class="white_10pt">The opinions on this game from people who've
played it vary wildly. I'd be interested to see those 'hardcore RPG'
elements the reviewer mentioned, as well.

I thought the demo was fun. RA seems like it will be a run and gun action RPG, and I have been wanting a new game where I can shoot mutants and blow shit up. I'm not expecting deep roleplaying, although I would like to be able to name my character.
I read the RA forums and learned that the German edition of RA has or had problems getting the MP mode to work.

Well, it is a FACT, that if you cn not name your charecter in a game it can not be a part of the RPG-genre... everyone knows that... it is indeed bizarre that game developers would risk loosing sales figures by not adding the option of having custom char-names. There are no 'knowns'. There are thing we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know. So when we do the best we can and we pull all this information together, and we then say well that's basically what we see as the situation, that is really only the known knowns and the known unknowns. And each year, we discover a few more of those unknown unknowns.

I tried the demo and it blows bigtime.
Was cool at first killing mutants with all their carefuly selected names, but it begcomes dull really fast as the scenery never changes and you keep killing mutants.
The theres the "implants" you can get wich are just plain stupid.
Snakes ranking? -12/5 been done before and better.
