I tried TA, put it away like after 15 minutes, all units looked the same and did the same, no storyline or interesting quests either, add sucky graphics to that, not my type, really.
Guess I'm too much of a StarCraft fanboi, hence I have too high standards for RTS, or something.
My only thing is: How can you say TA has bad graphics when you like Jagged Alliance so much. I mean I still like Jagged Alliance better, but I was always a fan of the notion that so long as a game is fun, who the fuck cares about the graphics?
He said "add sucky graphics to that". It's like saying, the game sucked like 100 pts and it also had bad graphics (1 pt). It's 100:1, not the other way around. He's not putting games in order based on their graphics, it's just that he feels it's a little plus or minus on top of the chocolate cake frosting. Fuck, my explinations suck, but I hope you catch my train of thought.

Kashluk got it right, I don't mind mediocre graphics if a game is fun overall, in fact cheap graphics can enhance atmosphere of a game (like in the JA series for instance), although in TA it didn't imho, more like the contrary.

My point, if I recall correctly, was that both Alpha Centauri and Total Annihilation had a commonality, that being highest quality. If you, Thor, and/or others cannot see that, 'tis your unbelievable loss. Yes.

But, besides, what the fuck does Total Annihilation have to do with anything realistic? I mean, propably the best thing about it's futuristic setting is that they can be totally creative and they're free of any chains of WW2 games for example.
Somehow, I've started hating rts. I'm just old enough to get annoyed at complete control over every individual unit, I want something Settler-ish. I'm the supreme commander, right, but there should be people underneath me that do the bossing around. I just want the strategy part.
