S.T.A.L.K.E.R. delayed until next year

<p>Any hopes of seeing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before the end of the year have
now vanished as it has been confirmed that the previous delay in
the release date has pushed it back to at least some time in 2006:</p>

<p><em>"In
two words, to sum up an ICQ chat: when the plot is fully implemented
(it is being completed), the simulation will be finally tuned. This is
what the team is doing right now.
The game will certainly not come out this year.
Look for the beginning of the wide advertising campaign, as it will mean half a year until the release."</em> </p>

If I've understood correctly, they have difficulties with the AI/dynamic gameworld. But that was already 2 years ago. It's sad really, because all the features that were considered as 'revolutionary in FPS's' then such as the dynamic gameworld, the physics model and even the graphics aren't that special today. Far Cry and Boiling Point got there first, although they failed in other areas. It's difficult to sell a game to gaming mags and consumers if it doesn't offer anything exceptional. Mediocreity doesn't sell. As time passes, it seems more likely STALKER is going to end up in the same bin as Daikatana, Duke Nukem Forever, Team-Fortress 2 and the rest.
