Poll: 60% of Americans say World War 3 is likely

<p>Among other issues surveyed by <a href="http://wid.ap.org/polls/japanus/index.html">the poll</a>
aimed to highlight difference of world view among Americans and
Japanese was the question of World War 3, namely, "how likely is it
that there will be another World War in their lifetime".</p>
<p>Americans proved to be more pessimistic than the damn nips - 6 out
of 10 people surveyed said World War 3 is "likely", while only a third
of the octopus fuckers held similar opinions.</p>
<p>What I personally find surprising is the Japs' answer. Isn't mention
of World War in the background story obligatory for every
self-respecting manga writer?

Well with the way things are getting over in the other parts of the world and new people building nukes it'll happen soon. Some crazy terrorist is gonna buy a nuke off the black market and bomb the hell out of China, which will then launch nukes at us, eventually leading to the start of Fo1 where we emerge from our vaults looking for water chips.

This seems to be a common fear, but I don't think it's likely to happen for a number of reasons.

There is no black market for nuclear warheads. Sure, you can buy a chunk of plutonium with good luck but making it into a functional bomb is a trickier process. Acquiring and transporting a nuclear warhead from a military facility isn't exactly an easy task either. Facilities that hold nukes are heavily guarded, even in Russia.

Then there is the possibility to develop and build a nuke by yourself. That's what countries like Iran and North-Korea are trying to do. Most countries lack the knowledge, facilities and funding of such a huge project. Most of these countries doesn't even have long-range missiles. And how to do this unnoticed under the watching eye of the United States?

And then there are moral issues of such calibre that even extremely fundamental terrorists would think twice before launching a nuke.

Well depending on the terrorist I guess.

But they seem so intent on destroying other peoples (Who are not islamic) lives that it's hard to be convinced otherwise.

If they were handed a nuke, I'm 99% sure they would hesitate to launch it directly against W-DC..
