Pete Hines briefly on Fallout 3

Post by Mr. Teatime »

[ Game -> Interview ] - More info on Game: Fallout 3 | More info on Person: Pete Hines

There's a new interview with Pete Hines on Gamesplanet where he talks about Oblivion mainly, but a bit of Fallout 3 as well:

Last question, could you give us some
information about Fallout 3? I know many RPG-fans are desperatly
waiting to get some news about this game.

I would say to them that you can take a look at Oblivion in terms of
what to expect from us. What I mean is, we take our
projects seriously. We make sure we put in the requisite time to do
them right. And, we tend not to really talk about them or even let
people know we’re doing them until we’re a long way into development
and actually have things we can show and talk about. So with Fallout 3,
folks were made aware of it because of the announcement, but from a
development standpoint we’re still in pre-production mode. It will be a
LONG time before we start talking to folks about what we’re up to. I
know they’d like more info, but as I said we really don’t plan to say
anything until we’ve made some real progress.

So, nothing to see here.

Spotted @ RPG Codex

..is it actually possible that Fo3 has been longer underway than Duke Nukem Forever, now?
(which should be "done" when Prey is released.)

Well, didn't work start on FO3 right after FO2? Sure, it was shelved a few times before actually commencing with Van Buren, but I guess we could say work started like 7 years ago.

So it's not going to be Morrowind with guns; it's going to be Oblivion with guns. Fucking great.

I don't remember the whole deal, I have to admit that I didn't interest myself in it, more than whining about it not comming, until I'd see some proof about it.

Exactly, the small amount of looking into beth that Ive done shows that (unlike Iply with the 2 FO games) they take the time to devolp a game.

Weather or not they do FO3 justice................. Well at least I know Ill be having access to automatic weapons when the real news startrs coming out.......... (unfortunitly Ill be stuck in Iraq, unable to exact nessacary revenge in a FOish manner)

It all depends on Bethesda's ability to say "Hey, you know what? Fallout is like, totally not like any other game we've ever made. We have no experience making an involved plot that doen't start off in prison and allow you to join the bad guy, nor have we done any isometric games because they aren't really our thing. But you know guys, it's what we really have to do if we want to make a proper Fallout game".

Yep. We're doomed.

At least there'll be wicked graphics.
Which our computers can choke on... :anger:

Have they done any non FirstPersonShooter's, btw?
I simultaneously dread and love the opportunity to go ballistic with the lovable weapons from Fo..

A list of Betsoft games

More than a decade of developing games and no titles that surpass the pit of mediocrity.

I remember Magic & Mayhem..!
Nice game.. game, absolutely.

As for all the Elder Scroll series, I'd say they're were a bit higher up than Mediocre, but that's just me.
