I just read a collection of Poppy Z Brite short stories, and she may write like some talented sonafabitch (err..daughter-of-a..), but her stories were full of homos and buggery and boys sucking each other and stuff and eating dead people that they seriously buggered.
Both pretty and grotesque at the same time.
All they needed was some drug addiction stuff and Im sure Naked_Lunch would've read her.

SHAGGY! Glad you go make the long and vile journey over here.Shagnak wrote:I just read a collection of Poppy Z Brite short stories, and she may write like some talented sonafabitch (err..daughter-of-a..), but her stories were full of homos and buggery and boys sucking each other and stuff and eating dead people that they seriously buggered.

Indeed, it sounds most intriguing!

In no way is that good at all. Why in the shit would anyone read that in the first place?Shagnak wrote:I just read a collection of Poppy Z Brite short stories, and she may write like some talented sonafabitch (err..daughter-of-a..), but her stories were full of homos and buggery and boys sucking each other and stuff and eating dead people that they seriously buggered.

Anyways I'm in the process of reading Frederik Pohl's Gateway series. Gotta admit it's pretty damn good.
If you like that exploration sci-fi field, I'd say you would love this series.

Well, yes, I had mixed feelings as well.Mandalorian FaLLouT GoD wrote:In no way is that good at all. Why in the shit would anyone read that in the first place?
But there are plenty of pervos around. Hell, there are plenty of DAC members that I know in one guise or another that pretty much admit they are.

Haven't quite sifted through this entire thread ...
Alas, Babylon, anyone?
Or A Canticle For Leibowitz?
Something more along those lines again is The Sheep Look Up To The Sky.
The only bad thing is that after you read those you get into a bit of a downer funk.

I'm a big fan of Bladerunner, and I keep looking for a copy of this, but I can't find one anywhere. I suppose I'll need to order it.POOPERSCOOPER wrote:I finished Do andrios dream fo electronix sheep? and it was pretty good but it got into some spiritual shit or something towards the end that I didn't like.

Do you mean "The Sheep Look Up" by the late John Brunner?drochfhuaimniú wrote: Something more along those lines again is The Sheep Look Up To The Sky.
Sci-fi disaster(ish) novel set in an over-polluted ecologically fucked future.
Yeah it's a downer, but I agree it does have its rewards. If anyone likes that, I recommend "Stand On Zanzibar" and "Shockwave Rider" - two other rather heavy dystopian tales by Brunner - as well.

I've got an old copy of Stand on Zanzibar kicking around either on one of my multiple book shelves or in one of the multiple stacks piled around my room.Nicolai wrote:Hm, I've actually got a copy of Stand on Zanzibar sitting on my 'to-be-read' shelf. Maybe I'll bump it up on the list of DOOM.
Anyway, I'm about to start on book 3 in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series.
That series by Martin sucks ass. Its a horrible mockery of fantasy mixed with a romance novel.

Herro,
I recently finished re-reading(re-relishing) The Summer Queen.
I checked Joan D.Vinge's website, and she refers to it as her
"War and Peace". She's not kidding.
Lately, I've been rereading things and I'm looking for some
recommendations. I don't go for pointless fantasy epics- I don't
buy the "evil overlord gonna ruin the world" bit - I'd like to see
some psychology, sociology, and anthropology... please.
Does anyone have some leads on books that'll put me in a trance
until the sun comes up?
thanks

You don't have to press Enter after every line you type to change line, the forum does that automatically. Unless that's just how you type, which is a bit peculiar.Redeye wrote:Herro,
