Flatout in development
<strong>[ Mod -> Update ]</strong> - More info on <a href="http://wikipocalypse.duckandcover.cx/in ... atout">Mod: Flatout</a>
<p><strong>Dosmaen</strong> has <a target="_self" href="http://www.duckandcover.cx/forums/viewt ... 56">posted on our forums</a> about a new game he's making, inspired by Fallout, called Flatout. It caught my attention so thought I'd publicise it here.</p>
<blockquote>
<p><span class="postbody"><em>
Flatout will be a game similar to the game Fallout programmed and
designed by Black Isle Studios, and distributed by Interplay. Key
differences will be in Art Style, and some new gameplay elements will
be added to this game. See features for more information. It is being
scripted in Python and runs through a game engine known as
Ika. The gameplay style will be a turned based PC Style RPG using
the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. The art style will be(or I would like it to
be) more cartoony, similar to the designs of the guy who appears in the
introduction and on the Character screen. </em>

</blockquote>
<p>He's asked for feedback so feel free to write your thoughts here or in the original thread.</p><p> </p><p><em>Edit by King of Creation</em>:</p><p>In addition, <strong>Dosmaen</strong> sent along this description to me:</p>

<p><em><span class="postbody">Flatout - A Post Nuclear Oddity is a project I
have been working on, using an engine known as Ika. It will feature a
new cartoonier art style(hopefully <img border="0" alt="icon_razz" src="http://www.duckandcover.cx../../forums/ ... n_razz.gif" />),
four races to choose from(human, deathclaw, mutant, bionic), and many
other new features, as well as old classic features that everyone
loved, including combat systems, perks, the S.P.E.C.I.A.L system, and
many others. All the weapons will be new, while some classic items will
be returning. We are currently looking for people who would like to
help in the more artistic fields of the game, such as storyline and
graphics. New coders would be useful, and it is recommended that they
are decently familiar with python, ika,
and basic game design. If you would like to contribute to the project
email me at: <a href="mailto:dosmaen@gmail.com">dosmaen@gmail.com</a> or at the topic on the forums.</span></em> </p>

dosmaen wrote:It's just a project name which is most likely going to change once we get some storyline details down. I named it flatout because of the fact that it is going to be more cartoony. Not only that, but there are a wide variety of software products with the name flatout in them(just googled).
Flatout name = because of cartoony?
As in Flatland? The 2D world?
Good luck, but I wonder sometimes if all the efforts of all
the mods might be better spent on just making a kickass set of
dev tools. Then mods could make things with a realistic chance of success.
It's still going to be isometric. and it's not a mod. I am going to be releasing the source to this game in full, so there will be more resources available to those who wish to make their own fallout style games. At first, I was going to make a mod, but I found that most of the mod tools weren't that good. so I decided to use old faithful ika.

I gotta agree, with good Dev tools mods would be easier to make and take less time. With some of the talented people in the FO community we'd have some kickass mods if that was the case.Redeye wrote:dosmaen wrote:It's just a project name which is most likely going to change once we get some storyline details down.
