The Books thread.

Talk about music, movies, TV, books, other types of entertainment and what your vices are. Also, if you're addicted to the high you get off Aspirin, this is the place to talk about it.

Is it

Is

Is

I don't know. I just don't know. I shall consult with The Penguins. I will have the answers I crave. :drunk:

It's a decent read, but I suppose that some of the POVs are not quite as interesting as certain others.. (eg Sansa and Catelyn Stark vs Tyrion Lannister and Jon & Samwell).

Tasty Penguins ? Foolish. Unwise. Misguided. No no no, your only problem(s) involve(s) <deleted>, <deleted>, <deleted>, <deleted>, <deleted>, <deleted>, and a painful, prolonged demise. Eating Penguin indeed. Ohohoho.

Really, you couldn't have known that Penguins Are The Most Venomous Creature In All Existence. :drunk:

Do you even have to ask?

Sad thing is, I've got some books that are so old and obtuse, not many people have even heard of them.

Bibliophilia. To me, books are mere accesories, entourage. I take much rejoice in surrounding myself with books that I don't bother acquainting myself with. Really, who NEEDS books when there is such a think as the internet. It's synoptic as well as elaborate, complete, up to date and....cheap.

Such vile exploitation of meaning and function is horribly depressing in my opinion. :sadblinky:

Your problem is that you only deal in absolutes... the series did not "suck ass" by any standards, whether it's the style you prefer or not. By the way, I know you liked Heroes Die... so if you haven't already, you should get Neuromancer by William Gibson, because it is the SHIT. And it's Stover's favorite book.

I thank my higher power every day that I wasn't born you.

EDIT: Maybe if you distilled Eddings' 800 page epics down to 200 pages or so, they might be readable... but the writing is still crap.

Reading James Clavell's Tai Pan and will follow with Noble House.

Clavell is great, King Rat is one of my favorite books. Haven't gotten to Noble House yet, though I heard good things about it.

Reading "The Soft Machine" by William S. Burroughs, and then I'm gonna have to finish "The Flowers of Evil" for my school reading. Pretty gosh-darn interesting book, glad my school is coming to its senses.

Currently (re)reading Watership Down. And every issue of Harper's published since 1990.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

King Rat and Shogun are two of my favorite books, but all of Clavell's are good. Whirlwind is pretty good too, even if it deals with finns.

I read the contents label of a soda can last week. It was quite interesting, although it felt a bit artificial and I could guess the ending half-way through.

Bull-fucking-shit. Mieville's King Rat was about a fucking bunch of goth ravers. Dancing. That is not cool. China Mieville is an amazing author, but that book sucked.

Watership Down gave me nightmares when I was a kid. The movie was even worse. Poor bunnies. :sadblinky:
