Vice City + Zombies = GTA: Long Night

Post by Mad Max RW »

[ Mod -> Update ] - More info on Mod: GTA: Long Night | More info on Game: GTA: Vice City

This one is new to me, mainly because I avoid the GTA community like
a plague. Over at the Mod Database it
states:

GTA: Long Night creates an entirely new game set in the familiar locale
of Vice City, utilizing the incredibly popular GTA engine to portray a
city undersiege by hordes of the undead. The storyline revolves around
multiple survivors making their way to the last human stronghold, where
they share tales of zombie chaos across over twenty original missions
and cutscenes.

Featuring new radio stations, particle effects, animations, and a
half dozen playable characters(including a stoner searching for pot, a
pimp tyring to find his girls, and Fat Albert battling zombies in a
shopping mall), Long night creates a totally immersive experience like
no other in the GTA universe. Just picture 40 or 50 zombies chasing you
down looking for a meal as you tool around Vice, and you've got the
general idea of the difference in gameplay.

I don't own a copy of Vice City and haven't touched GTA3 in
years, so I
can't really share much of an opinion. But it's supposed to be good.
Anyone
willing to give a try post some impressions. Head on over to GTA: Long
Night for screenshots, a trailer, and the 77MB mod download.

At least it looks fugly, but I guess that's part of the B-movie zombie theme or GTA just looks like that. Apart from the 20 seconds I played the game, I haven't had the displeasure to get familiar with it and I doubt I'll try it out because of a zombie mod.

I once tried a zombie mod for Half-Life and discovered that a zombie theme is just an excuse not to do things properly. Same goes for movies.

Care to explain why do you hate GTA3 that much, MMRW?

He thinks GTA promotes criminal behavior and corrupts our children, or something.

The game itself is good, but I had some really bad experiences with the community early on and it's worse today. Anything you make will be plagiarized. Character skins, cars, whatever. A dozen assholes across the world will steal it, insert their name, and take the credit. And it's not just GTA fans stealing from other GTA fans. It's common practice to steal from car makers in the Need for Speed and Carmageddon series of games. Even when you can prove it and have several people behind you, you'll still face an onslaught of idiots that'll run your name into the ground.

So you were in it for the fame and glory? D:

That revelation did not put you in a very favorable light, my boy...

Nah, it adds confusion. Let's say you find a cool car on a GTA3 site and want to find more stuff by the person who made it. Good luck. The whole thing is a big fucking mess. I'm sure there are some clean sites now, but I couldn't care less anymore.

I dont think many people care who makes it, if it looks cool they will just use it. Its hard to sketch your name on skins, they are little things that are made for the enjoyment of little tommy jones. If you were to make a big mod like this zombie thing than your name would be more important to list.

The one thing consoles have going for them, is that you don't have to deal with their "community". Just slap in the disc and play.

See? Now, by which game they have been influenced the most?

Empathy is there, as while there are doubtlessly some vaguely intelligent participants in the GTA community as a whole, they do appear to excel at camouflage.

Perhaps they are simply modest to a fault. Perhaps. :drunk:

Dialup impedes getting the mod; but I'll guess:

John Denver, Arlo Guthrie, plenty of classical, maybe a channel filled
with classic commercials, Stryper, nu-age, Sounds of the Andes.

Or maybe SOM, Misfits, Slayer, Public Enemy, MC 900 ft Jesus, ...?
At least there sould be "The Freaks Come Out at Night".

Jacko would be great as a character, too. Put him in charge of an
orphanage, and you could do "collecting missions" for him.

12 Monkeys? Jacko raids the zoo...

The Damned is a must for zombie-shooter/mower. Try Thrill Kill.

Jacko really looks like a ghoul these days with his plastic surgery disaster and dyed pale face.
