Age of Empires 3 demo out

Post by King of Creation »

Anyone tried it yet? I'm downloading it right now. The game looks amazing, and the series hasn't let me down yet. For some download links:

So I just installed it and gave it a quick look before I go to bed. Game looks good, but the interface is freaking huge. Takes up like 1/4 of the screen.

Is the gameplay on part with the 2 previous incarnations, or is it just eye candies?

I'm not sure I'd want the same gameplay though =/

Gimme something new!

If I wanted the same gameplay, I'd replay AOE 1 and 2...

I think it looks good. The combat is especially nice, I like the sound of those rifles :)
i do have some smallstuff to complain about, though:
When I ran it for the first time, it gave me a warning, saying I only had like 1000 mhz, even though I have 2000. But that may be because it's a laptop or something.
The graphics were very nice, but not a lot of bang for my buck. A lot of other games run a lot more smoothly on my comp., even though they have better graphics. Also, all of the buildings look very similar, which makes for a bit of confusion.

I meant "as good", not "the same thing".

AoE3 is basically the same as any RTS released in the last few years. RTSs are always the same thing over and over. I used to love the genre but now its mind blowingly boring. Maybe I played too much of them and burned myself out.

I never played the first two, for your background infromation anaylsis.

No. Only the English and Spanish civilizations are included with the demo.
I haven't really looked into this demo yet. I've just installed it and only had a quick peek to marvel at it's graphics and to get a very basic impression of the overall feel of the game. In my opinion there is quite some distance between this game and its predececcor on the first account.
The graphics are simply brilliant. The units and buildings are heavily detailed and meticulously animated so that some degree of realism is added to the game. For instance, you can clearly see a rifleman lower his rifle and take an aim before attacking an enemy unit.
In many respects it's really just another episode that mounts the series. But staying true to the roots in the gaming industry isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially not in the case of this game. I mean, aoe is an excellent concept, so why revolutionize it?

I really, really loved the original AoE but the second was already a big disappointment. Not that it wasn't alright, it just wasn't as good as I had hoped. Not great and revolutionizing and shit.

Besides, AoE's "modernisation" has been pretty much done by Empire Earth and that other newer game what's it's name, no?

Aren't EE and EE2 sequels to AoE, as well? At least they have a lot in common gameplay-wise, it's the same shit with slightly different units. D:

I liked the later missions of the Joan of Arc campaign in the second one, other than that AoE is rather boring. I couldn't play the gook campaign because the game ate too much memory for that stupid chinese wall back then, wtf?
Apart from that it lacks movie scenes, interesting characters, differing races and all that, too, which StarCraft has for instance.

StarCraft is still BEST RPG EVAR zomg.

Who'd want to play as the Portugese? It's not like they've done anything. D:

Weren't they the pioneers of pioneering? I thought they were the first nation to set sail and venture the globe. They occupied quite some territory in the past. The country has several settlements in various area's including Nothern africa, South America, Africa and Azia. Also, Brazil is entirely portugese-speaking.
