Pet-sniping is a marvelous thing.
Part of the fun is putting up the friendly/harmless facade.
Part of it is creeping about/finding good blinds & hide-sites.
Part of it is "zero-time"... the moment.
Part of it is returning to the first part and maintaining the facade.

Have some Yanni and John Denver cds around, invite people in for coffee and fresh baked scones/etc.
Dress in earth tones, wear nice sweaters.
Volunteer at the local animal shelter. Put lots of sappy "sensitive progressive enlightened person" bumper stickers on your car.

Get your own pet as a cover. Tell people cute little anecdotes about your little child surrogate.

I have no problem with popping feral/stray cats, they tend to carry diseases & such, like stray barn cats... their kittens will get infections and will most likely die wretched deaths, or be eaten by predators... And of course, they eat the shit outta song birds, can't have that, now can we? Save the death of a mocking bird for the little boy with a pellett rifle.
