Looks more like 60s to me, thats an old bastard. Still I think it adds to the storyline, kind of like old man Bruce Wayne in Dark Knight Returns. Cool stuff. Think they learned by going with a younger character (Raiden in Sons of Liberty) they were queering everyting up. People want snake, snake is old, disillusioned and battle weary. This is what makes him interesting.
No it doesn't? He was cloned in 1990 along with liquid and solidus. But they messed solidus up and he aged more than the other two, it was mentioned in mgs2. Also, in the new game otacon only looks to be in his mid-40s while snake late 50s mabye. But before they looked about the same age.
Same age? In MGS Otacon looked about 12. Also there was the obvious age difference based on the voice actors they chose. Otacon sounded about 12 and Snake, I don't care how many cigarettes he smoked, sounded like he was in his early 30s.

:SNAAAAAAAAKE:
1990? Dude, MGS1 took place in 2001, Snake would've been 11 years old. Don't blame that on accelerated aging, because Snake clearly had no idea he was a clone untill Liquid told him. If he was 30 at 11, he would've known something was up. Besides, I might not be an expert on this, but I'm pretty sure most clones age normally up to a point. Then they pull a Dolly.

Maybe they cloned him as an adult, with a few memory implants.
Or something.
