Goddammit.

Post by atoga »

For some reason, I keep getting internet explorer-esque popups in Mozilla Firefox. Why is Firefox suddenly so impotent? This never happened to me before. What's wrong, and what can be done? This is truly aggrivating.
suppose you're thinking about a plate of shrimp. suddenly somebody will say like 'plate' or 'shrimp' or 'plate of shrimp', out of the blue, no explanation.

Write down all file sizes/etc.
Reset defaults.
Write down sizes again.
Completely uninstall.
Reinstall. (Don't just reinstall, uninstall first. Also manually delete
anything that's left.)
Check for differences.

Fuck it, just reinstall and see what happens.

If it only happens on certain websites, then they're probably using some smarty-pants event-handler pop-ups. Also, you could have a spyware on your PC.

Firefox just had a "critical update". I downloaded it last night, and now it has a whole lot of trouble with any phpBB forums. I've not noticed any unusual popup activity, though.

I doubt it. I've had this PC for like a week. I don't think I could have gotten spyware from anywhere. So...

This sucks.

I get pop ups from time to time on Firefox, but it does not worry me. Get spybot, it's free and does a decent job keeping your PC from drowning down. Spyware is intrusive, even if you had your comp only days ago. By the way, what kind is it, and what parts does it have?

I do get some pop ups with firefox but it never gives me any spyware. I get most of my spyware from using IE like once or twice.

Using Firefox, the only pop-ups I get are the flash based ones. Got spyware using IE when on old RPG Codex archive pages, never using that piece of shit again.

Never using IE, or never accesing old RPG Codec Archives again?

I got ad/spyware off of We Are Robots.
The Shockwave download, I think. (So not actually from THEM)
But I don't hold it against them.
They're funny!
Just suck it up. Re-install some stuff, delete
some stuff.
That's how it goes.
Run some AV crap...

It'd be nice to have mass attacks against places that host that
kind of bullshit, but they don't know it's there.
We need some kind of "trace and bomb" utility organization.
Discreet.
Heavy Duty.
Untraceable.
Find where it's from and blast the server.
Stealth Strategic E-Bombing.
It's illegal, but the alt. is e-police.

Of course, five minutes of porn surfing will give you tons
of spam, trojans, viruses, etc.
I figure that's your own risk, it adds to the "illicit" fun.

The Codex is hosted at the same place DAC is, so dsitribution of spyware and popups should be uniform throughout both sites. If you really want to fix the problem, I suggest you never use the internet again.
How appropriate. You fight like a cow.

There is a simple solution to the firefox popup problem. Don't use it. I have no problems using IE w/ google toolbar that blocks popups. Opera is good for those nasty webistes all full of spyware. I mean serial webises of course.

It's not that bad, at least for me, happens once in a while, I panicked at first, then calmed down. Happens very rarely for me.

Anyway, the rest of the Firefox features work flawlessly, it's too good.
