Help My retarded ass
Help My retarded ass
Hey, do you guys have any good tips for the early parts of Fallout 2? I've been having trouble because I tagged small guns for my weapon skill without realizing how scarce ammo would be. I suppose I should start over with either melee or unarmed. Which of the two do you guys recommend? And do you know where I can find more money and equipment early on? (Like in the first couple towns and the Den?)
Motivate me to finish Fallout 2.

check out some walkthroughs but here aresome tips:
Do all the quests in Klamath, save money (about 350), get Sulik, save every other weapon you can find, go to the Den buy variuos weapons from Tubby and Flick (Desert Eagles, shotguns) Do some Den quests, get vic, Every time you level up and you think your not gonna use the small guns skill start distributing the points to melee. Go to vault city and get cassidy(at the bar), You could take his sawed off for yourself if you want. So just save money, save any weapons you find and just experiment.
Ah, the good ol' times, Fallout 2.

ApTyp: http://scatlover.com/ should be of interest to you.
As for FO2, Steal is definetely a worthwile skill in the beginning. Use it to get lots of money, so that you can free Sulik and Vic as early as possible. Then steal an smg for Sulik and a hunting rifle for Vic, or steal other stuff and barter for it.
You can forget about small guns all together, and just let Vic and Sulik do the killing. You can always help them out a bit with Unarmed (spiked knuckles)
Pump your points into other stuff, like Speech, Doctor, Unarmed and Science. This works great if you (like me) want to finish every quest in the game. Unarmed is especially nice, since it can both help you out in combat, and is necessary for a couple of quests (the masticator in reno and the triads is san fran). But don't forget that you'll need a high science skill to free Skynet (I've never failed with 125%, so that seems to be the ultimate number, but some claim it's 121%)
At level 12, you can get the Tag! perk and become an expert at Big Guns Or Energy Weapons in a matter of minutes.
Also: NEVER start the game with a strength of more than 5. Power Armor and Brotherhood upgrades makes that a complete waste during the end, since no Primary Skills can go higher than 10

FO2 Steal is the most broken skill ever. Also if I just want to gunfest/hoard it is my favorite. San Fran + Very high thief skill = whatever you want + money. I like buying drugs and ammo, then stealing back my money and whatever money they already had.
Unarmed + Improved Criticals
Requires a luck of 6 or 7 maybe, don't forget to get the hubologist in NCR to increase your luck.
I always liked the super sledge. Get caught stealing just knock their organs out their back. *Ca-chunk*

I miss the good ol' USSA.
I would say usual but it has been such a long time and I never did the same config more than twice...
Single handed + Jinxed was fun
As for tags... at least melee or unarmed, otherwise the temple of trials is a bit tougher to clear out. Then whatever.
I am starting to think it is time to play it again. Maybe a fugly loner charater.

A cheap, dirty tactic is to go to The Den first, save you're game and whack Flick. For the love of GOD don't talk to him first, since doing so will rotate his inventory. The usual loot from this is:
2 shotguns
3 magnums
40 shotgun shells
40 .44 rounds
Leather armor
This is more then enough to get you going, and the .44 is by far one of the best early weapons.

Re: Help My retarded ass
you may have not noticed, this game takes place in wasteland. just don't spray your targets with 'burst' mode, or play 'serious sam' (or perhaps 'restricted area'? yea )Old_Ralph wrote:without realizing how scarce ammo would be.
Jinxed with 10 agility.
Get into slaver/etc. encounters and run away.
If there are 2 groups fighting each other they will drop guns,
lose their ammo, etc. Then you can grab it and run.
Or finish them off, grab and run.
With this tactic I acquired HK CAWS near the Den at very
low level.
Plus SMG/etc.
My first and favorite config was to plan for utility and flexibility
in the early, middle, and end of the game. This was not a super
specialized character, and did not count on getting upgrades/etc.
S6 P8 E5 C2 I8 A10 L1 Tags: Small guns, speech, melee or
unarmed. Outdoorsman tagged later, might sub for speech at
start. Traits: Skilled and Heavy Handed.
Tons of skill points, action points, dialogue options. Pump speech
to make up for bad charisma. Low luck for a hardcore dismal
wasteland experience. Get sharpened spear at start and you can
deal w/things if melee tagged.
This was my first character so I have the best memories of this
config. Pariah Dog was a drag but I liked the flavor a bit. Just
carry extra weapons for when they explode. I think I got Cult of
Personality to help out a bit. Remember to heal P-dog for meat
shield use
Heavy handed was to help only at start. In retrospect, just add
that to ANY character to guarantee ToT passage. So you can go
ahead and make a diplo/sniper or whatever.
Hmmm... start F2 again? HL2 still isn't authenticated... so ...
Oh, hint: return to Den occaisionally to stockpile Psycho.
I loved going up against way too high level fights with that
first character.

If i'm running a smallguns build, then I ALWAYS use the following things:
ST: 5 or 6
PE: 10
EN: 5 or 6
AG: 10
IN: 10
LK: 2
Fast shot
Gifted
-----
The low luck might seem like a hinderance, but I have almost NEVER had a problem with this. The fast shot and high agility let you just rack up the damage in the early levels, especially with the .44, Grease Gun and HK p90c.
