The Wastes is back...again

Once upon a time there was a neat mod called Wasteland
Half Life. Picture a loosely translated Fallout/Road Warrior first
person deathmatch game where just about any weapon means instant death.
No collecting flags bullshit or any kind of teamwork whatsoever. Just
you, some kind of post apocalyptic setting, and a dual weapons system
that was way ahead of its time. Years later it changed to "The Wastes"
and went down the toilet. Then, well, there was a long time of nothing.

Today,
The Wastes: Source launched and they
actually have something to show you. Along with a handful of
screenshots there's also links provided for the last version of The Wastes for Half Life 1. It's been a long
time for me, so I might check it out. Let's see if the latest
incarnation amounts to something.

I'm pretty sure that was another team.Wolfman Walt wrote:Wasn't the Wastes originally for UT 2004? Or is that another project?
But yeah, there was something about that, with a skimpy nurse character...
heh, this mod will have it easy.. most of the HL2 textures are post-apoc themed already.. not to mention the hundreds of models of smashed cars, signs etc..
And of course there is a katana.. along with a medieval typed quote..
I predict a lot of bashing..

I really hope they bring back the dual wielding from the original. The Wastes fucking gimped it.
There was a Wasteland HL2 in development, http://www.wastelandhl2.com/ , with the original leader behind it. I don't know what happened with them.
The UT2k4 mod you're thinking of is either Shattered Oasis or Roadkill Warriors. Both are still supposedly alive. They had a few releases, but just like every UT mod interest quickly fades. I know Roadkill is focused more on HL2 now.

Not entirely new though, Blood 2 had a similar system =/
But getting the multiple dual wield system in a popular multiplayer game would be awesome..!
And it was indeed Shattered Oasis, btw.. thanks.

Was that a joke or am I so out of the loop? I thought it was being built with Oblivion's engine, whatever it's called.
Also, I too miss WHL. I spent many a night playing with just the one or two other poor souls still up.
