Wasteland Merc 2 Released
What ever keeps topics about my mods on front page is a good thing for me. And every time you post in any of threads related to wasteland merc you actually suport it by bringing attention to it. People are by now awere that fallout comunity likes to talk shit just about anything and that most of the time its just attention whoring and not much of the truth in what they wrote. So regular visitors that come by see the thread and download the mod. So you may understand why it is in my intrest to keep topics about my mods alive for as long as posible.
And so they download your mod.
And are alienated by the simple truth that it is, to put it bluntly, rather awful. This, combined with your far from optimal or approachable conduct, as evidenced by a disturbing tendency to discard any and all comment/suggestion/constructive criticism as a petty insult from an ignorant, jealous, spiteful twit, will have far from the intended effect.
Technically, though, they did download your mod. That count is all that matters, clearly.
Woo hoo !

Well it something like this. I was reading for years about how crap tactics is on this webpage and nma. And that didnt make me go "I am never buying that game." I just wanted to get it and see why all the fuzz about it? So i bought it.
Now all this talking about WM2 all over the fallout comunity made WM2 so famous that its so far included on 2 dvds that come with magazines that i know off. And its downloaded from gamespot, fileplanet, dac, filefront, mod-database and VGpro way more times than i estimated it to be.

Ooh ! DVDs !
I . . I stand corrected.
Well, I would be if cover DVDs were renowned for their discerning pursuit of quality, rather than filler. Oho. Similar goes for the sites you cite, my dear friend. As for the community, your measure should by now be quite obvious.
In retrospect, it is probably dangerous (not to mention rather rude) to prod your delusions so. Conveniently, with this comment and more importantly, your kind display of your unique 'logic', I have lost interest in alleviating you of your quaint beliefs.
Hurray !

Well when you make mods your main goal is to come in those magazines. My goal wasnt to make fallout 2 even better. Cause honestly nobody can do that. Take any mod thats in the making if it ever gets finished it wont come nowhere near as fun as fallout 2 was first time.
And thats totaly fine cause main purpose off mods is to keep fallout comunity alive. When its released it comes on the front page on pretty big gaming sites witch draws attention to fallout to players that maybe never heard of it or that maybe played it long ago and forgot about it. So it benefits all fallout comunities by making people register on forums and read about fallout on sites like dac and nma.

My main goal is to scratch an itch not to get anything on a magazine. Most modders mod their respective game because they have an obsessive compulsion not because they're attention seeking. I know a few people who mod for modding sake and hardly ever release their work. One guy makes maps for Half Life and once they're finished and he's played the map to see if it works, deletes the lot and starts a new map.Haris wrote:Well when you make mods your main goal is to come in those magazines.
Yes they could, they could take out all the crap added for FO2 and make it more like Fallout for a start.Haris wrote:My goal wasnt to make fallout 2 even better. Cause honestly nobody can do that.
Urm if they make their mods half as much fun as Fallout then they'd still be twice as much fun as FO2. Actually with that stupid temple of trials FO2 was much fun the first time at all.Haris wrote:Take any mod thats in the making if it ever gets finished it wont come nowhere near as fun as fallout 2 was first time.
Not so, the Fallout community has done alright so far without any decent mods. Mods are a personal thing, from a simple ammo fix because it bugs the hell out of you, to wanting to tell a story. Sure feedback is nice but if attention is all you're after go streak at a sports match.Haris wrote:And thats totaly fine cause main purpose off mods is to keep fallout comunity alive.

So you are saying when fallout 2 Wasteland merc 2 mod was second most downloaded mod on gamespot for 2 weeks that has million visitors per month or something and had it on front page of mods section didnt at all make new people notice fallout 2?
Even WM forums that had 20 members gained additional 300 members since Wasteland merc 2 was released. And is still gaining 2-4 new member per day on average. And its not so long since the mod was released.

Um no thats not what i said eather. But if they never heard of fallout games they did when they saw the mod on so many webpages, just moddatabase has 300+ people online most of the time and several times wasteland merc 1 and 2 was a newsbit on their frontpage. Or if they used to play fallout 2 and had it laying around they maybe installed it again. Even started searching for sites about fallout.
I actually did have a member on my forums that said that he bought fallout pack and played first fallout 1 than 2 than tactics and than wasteland merc 1 all after eachother for the first time. And he just saw it as playing different chars set in fallout world.

When FPOS was announced it made a lot of people notice Fallout, doesn't mean they have anything to bring to the community, or that they'll stick around. Or even that the community wanted them. Who cares if people notice Fallout 2, when Fallout 3 is due to hit the shops the previous games will sure to get a lot of attention again anyway. And at this stage it's too late for Van Buren so what does it matter.Haris wrote:So you are saying when fallout 2 Wasteland merc 2 mod was second most downloaded mod on gamespot for 2 weeks that has million visitors per month or something and had it on front page of mods section didnt at all make new people notice fallout 2?
Don't you think that if your mod hadn't been for Fallout 2 you'd be lucky for any members at all.Haris wrote:Even WM forums that had 20 members gained additional 300 members since Wasteland merc 2 was released. So you've elected yourself the unofficial Fallout community recruiter? Who cares how many people it brings back to Fallout, the franchise is dead awaiting to see if Oblivion with guns can successfully resusitate it or whether they'll bring it back as a lobotomised zombie.Haris wrote:Um no thats not what i said eather.
