Bullet time's useless, even Max Payne had it done better.

Destructable enviroment doesn't really matter, it's just eye candy. At least in Red Faction it had and effect on gameplay.

Nothing special about the lighting.

Since when have the enemies worked in groups? AFAIK they walk around until one of them sees you (to that point you're free to kill them without them noticing) and then they start hiding behind obstacles even if half of their body is completely uncovered. Then they left-strafe-shoot-right-strafe until you kill them.

Looking good doesn't make you good.

Besides those "magical obstacles" that make the immersion go down the well are fucking annoying. You can't kick down all the boarded spots, only those that you're *MEANT* to kick down. A weaker looking fence doesn't have a stance against the butt of your pistol but three wrist-thick boards are crushed to smithereens by your might. You can also kick/hit/shoot down the windows but oh jolly gosh if there were toothpick-thick pieces of wood going in between - you can't jump out of this window, because you can't kick these sticks down apparently because they're made from some strange stronger-than-anything substance that's ludricously spent on some old warehouse windows. Sometimes there are obstacles, like say a truck, that are half an inch lower than the lowest spot you can crouch under so you can't get past it. Hold on a minute, the guy's some sort of a spec-ops soldier and he can't crawl? God damn it where's the modern society going?!

The enemies are just stupid, they come running and want to get themselves killed. Getting hit by them doesn't affect your aim or gameplay in any way - getting your legs shot to hell with a heavy machine gun doesn't slow you down and losing (technically) both of your arms won't have any effect on your gun handling. Sometimes you don't even notice your health going down, because getting hit causes less distraction than trying to fire your gun which can't hit anything (apparently firearms training has been cut down in the spec-ops as well and martial arts courses have been increased since EVERYBODY knows that the best way to win a gunfight is to jump-kick) and which is so weak that it takes four to five straight hits to the head to kill anyone. Besides, FEAR seems to use some kind of magical sparkle bullets that make the battle ground look like a Marily Manson concert.

And I really, I really really do hate the way you enter a place with a team full of heavily armed thugs, then you're sent away and when you come back no one's alive. Then when another team finds you they send you on your way alone again and you come back just to find them dead again. SOME SORT OF MAGICAL VOODOO HINT HERE, FOLLOW THE MAIN CHARACTER AND YOU WON'T DIE DUMBASSES.

But no, that would be too much of a strain for the designers who've spent the whole developement time making eyecandy.

Umm yeah? My point was that EVEN THE FIRST ONE to use it had it done better than the game THAT'S HAD YEARS OF TIME TO DEVELOPE THE IDEA, you fucking dumbwit.

Kashluk, a lot of your complaints seem to be pretty common in FPS. THe whole "your on your own, but we have some guys doing other stuff" is like in pretty much every FPS or horror game. In what part in FEAR that you have to kick down stuff? I've been playing awhile and Ive n ever really had to knock shit down except maybe in the beginning.

What use is there to read that long a post only to have someone tell you a game sucks D:

What's the point in reading a short post telling you the game sucks when you get no explination why? D:

@pooper: Yeah, I know that most of my complaints are horribly common in today's FPS's, but that's the whole point - all these fanboys around me IRL are calling FEAR the OMG BEST THING EVAH and I really, really don't understand why. It's just average - no more, no less. And I wasn't exactly complaining about *having* to kick down stuff, more like that you can't kick down the stuff you want. Some specific places are boarded up with pretty damn thick pieces of wood, which you can kick/punch off but you and your army of heavily armed friends can't stand a chance against a light wooden fence. Or a truck, because you can't crawl.

I haven't noticed anything difficult without bullet time yet. I used it for a couple of times, but it just gives me seizures (the way the colors flicker and shit D:) and doesn't really affect your performance positively in any way. I'm only playing on moderate difficulty, though, so this could be the case, I admit that much.

I would also like to add that the scripted events are very gay and there's way too much of them.

Okay here it is from someone who actualy BOUGHT the game.

AI is decent, works in teams with some pretty nifty flanking techniques, run like hell away from nades, use cover well. But, of course, they all follow the same rull of running in a single file line (most of the time) right into my hail of lead.

Graphics are good, shadows and lighting are the best done in my opinion, the lip synching sucked ass, but that happens in almost every game, effets like water were quite realistic, and blood splater was almost as good as The Punisher video game

You get a decent selection of weapons. The most common weapon in the first 2 levels is the shitty submachine gun. I just use the pistol cause it was more fun and seemed to kill em faster. My favourite weapons were the crazy elctromagnetic exploding shell gun that turned people into a red cloud on a direct hit, the spike gun (excelent for when they jump over rails onto a lower level) and the lighting type gun that vaporized people leaving only their bones.

It was a little scary. To acurately describe the scaryness picture a little kid hiding in a bush. He jumps out at someone wearing a mask yelling, "BOGA BOGA BOGA!" The person jumps and maybe yells and a grand time is had by all.

I found that sometimes the amount of enemies you would fight at one time to be excessive. You hop out of a helecoptor on one level and almost a dozen people fire at you.

The bad parts is that it has little replay value as the scare factor wears off after the first time around, the battles, while supposed to let you use your own tatics, really only work if you follow the "rules" of fighting in FEAR. It was a lot shorter than Half-life 2. I'm trying out quake 4 and battlefront 2 tomorrow so I may give you the heads up on those compared to this.

All in all i would give it a 6 out of 10. Fun but only for the first time. A lot of the Ring's scare tactics in here.
It's the sandwich that takes a bite out of YOU!

Shorter than HL2? I beat them in about the same amount of time. But I also had a lot more fun than HL2 in FEAR. Not that I had really any at all in HL2, but whatever.

Ahhh, but it shooted your missiles down. That was neat.

And Hard was fun. Lack of ammo was such a surprise.

IF this game doesn't work on your computers... I doubt much it will work on mine... Either than that, it looks okay, average like a lot of you said. Would it worth it for someone that can't play FPS for too long without being bored?

I don't care if it fucks my wife or does my dishes, I just don't want to see the sequence five fucking times.

"OH NO! IT'S THE HELICOPTER AGAIN, GORDON! PICK UP ROCKET LAUNCHER AND SHOOT IT DOWN!"

Is Gordon the only fucker on the face of what's left of earth, who knows how to operate an anti-aircraft missile launcher? Why won't the ai people just shoot the damn thing.

"OH IT'S HEADCRABS AGAIN! GORDON, WATCH OUT. PICK UP THE SNIPER RIFLE AND SHOOT YOURSELF, WHILE I STAND BACK HERE AND SHOUT AT YOU."

There was only one time when people asked you to shot it down. And they had only one AA Missile Launcher. AND Gordon IS perceived as a HERO.

Wordless through two games, actually. And perceived as a hero for some unknown reason because Black Mesa is somewhere in the American south-west, I'd imagine? And his "saving" it i.e. blowing shit up and killing the army, somehow makes him famous in Eastern Europe? Omg rofl suparst8 w/ beeg towar now pwns u. Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the OMG WTF ITS A WEIRD SQUIDLICOPTER SHOOT IT DOWN DAMN IT BECAUSE WE ARE FAT AND USELESS. That combined with how the entire game was really just walking aroudn and shooting overweight Combine soldiers as the resistance piped in on the radio about how helpless they were without you. God help the world if those two MIT grads hadn't survived global chaos well enough to sit down and reinvent teleportation without any funding whatsoever. P.S. the whole bio-techno thing was stylish, but stupid. So was showing a bunch of new bio-techno units while you were dragged around for half an hour in a hovering sarcophogus. Hell. Being dragged around for half an hour like that was stupid.

GORDON FREEMAN WON THE WAR BECAUSE HE WORE AN HEV SUIT. Mass produce them and headshot all the combines. Stupid resistance. Also, the expansion has what'sherface miraculously alive? Uh. No. She died in a fiery explosion that demolished the building. But you didn't SEE her die so they'll invent a way to have her survive.

The game would've been a thousand times more fun if it was 10 bucks and was just three hours of standing in a tower and throwing those fucking pheremone blobs at innocent pedestrians below.
