Annoying popups

Make dumb suggestions so we can ignore them. I'm lovin' it.

"didn't DACers chip in for the server bill?"

That was a one-time drive to upgrade the server CPU. I don't remember exactly how much DAC raised, but it wasn't much.

The server hosting bill, on the other hand, needs to be paid every month.

No, I was thinking about this http://www.duckandcover.cx/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11504
but you're right, there was also this http://www.duckandcover.cx/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12366

I have ad disabling browser features by default, not specially for DAC. Guess I'm gonna disable them once in a while, or donate maybe..

I don't know anything about the first one, that was solely Teatime... but I remember the fiasco of trying to raise $40 here in the second thread. Frankly, if I had any idea what it'd turn into, I'd have paid for it out of my own pocket just to spare me the arguing.

real good.
I also recommend https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/m ... on=firefox
but this one's not about popups and stuff.
I also recommend the following also:
Adblock Plus with Adblock Filterset.G Updater
http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic=774 (scroll down a bit)
Block Ads css script
http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock.html

Taluntain wrote:Obviously if DAC had to rely on advertising to cover the costs of hosting, Teatime would be paying out his pocket for it. I think this thread is a good indication how little people around here care for the fact that advertising is the only thing that helps to pay at least a part of the server bill. It's really too bad that the "let's make sure that the site loses even the few cents a month from me (that I don't even have to pay for) by making sure I'm blocking all the ads" mentality works online. Until the guy running the site gets tired of paying for the enjoyment of his visitors with his time as well as his money, that is... But hey, when one site goes down, there's always another one there, right?

Trust me, you'd be bitter too if you were on the receiving end of this shitty mentality for years.
sounds like you need a

There are no advertisement popup-windows anymore, just the banners, which is good... but now some of the banners won't load up and I get this "can't load target from www.sorcerers2.net" popup (not window) all the time D:

That's odd... can you send a screenshot to me at sorcerer (at) sorcerers.net please? Thanks.

Well they troubled me yesterday but there haven't been any of those today. I guess the ads are cycled daily? And I doubt a screenshot would be so helpful, it's just a Firefox pop-up (in Finnish) about "not getting data from address x". And when it pops up the banner above is completely gray, no ads at all.

Oh well, no biggie.

Ads are cycled randomly, and geo-targeted, so different stuff shows for different countries. Still, if it does happen again, do send me a screenshot, it makes tracking things down much easier.
