No, it's not the name of a new game or anything. It's the name of DOOM. That's right gents, in 31 years time we're going to be witness to Armageddon, complete with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and some witty dialogue.

In Egyptian myth, Apophis was the ancient spirit of evil and destruction, a demon that was determined to plunge the world into eternal darkness.

A fitting name, astronomers reasoned, for a menace now hurtling towards Earth from outerspace. Scientists are monitoring the progress of a 390-metre wide asteroid discovered last year that is potentially on a collision course with the planet, and are imploring governments to decide on a strategy for dealing with it.

You can read the rest of the article here.

Thanks to Anonymous News Fairy for the tip.

There's no way to accurately predict when and if a particular asteroid will hit. The comet, or string of comets, that collided with Jupiter ten years ago initially passed by then came back later and smacked the shit out of it. We figured that out only a few months before impact. Any of the hundreds of near earth asteroids discovered in the last couple decades can do the same thing.

I think it's better to keep the people ignorant of such things we can do nothing about.

So I was thinking today, I hate people. I wished to see the idiots I sit next to have their skin turned inside out. Let's hope it hits the Earth.

Old news. Perhaps not the instance, certainly the threat(s). Always, they disappoint.

I am not given to optimism. :drunk:

Afraid of rocks in space? Shit, my niggaz, Bruce Willis has our ass covered. Didn't you see that awesome documentary of how he saved the world a few years back? I think it was called "Armaggedon" or something of the sort. But yeah. Basically he saved the world from certain doom.

Math. I consider a probability accurate enough.

Can do nothing, or won't do anything?

However, the fact that we are so overdue for a collision is proof God loves Humans. God loves me and I love God. :blowme:
I miss the good ol' USSA.

There's also a slight probability that every nuclear weapon on earth will detonate at the same moment, splitting the earth's crust into a million tiny pieces, seven of which are eaten by Thor (so he can go SSJ) before he charges off to Ragnarok and slays Jesus, the level 6 cleric.

No, that was Armageddon. In Unbreakable he almost drowns. What are we discussing about anyway?
